Introduction
Some 2004 model year Camry vehicles may experience a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor).
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 model year Camry vehicles with manual transmission produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Remove existing A/C compressor clutch wire harness.
A. Remove alternator and belt.
B. Remove Phillips-head screw on top of compressor (Figure 1).
C. Disconnect wire harness from A/C compressor clutch (Figure 1).
D. Detach retainer in A3 connector of A/C compressor clutch wire harness (Figure 2).
E. Remove terminal from cavity No. 2 (Figure 3).
NOTE:
Do not remove terminal by pulling from the wire harness side. Be careful not to drop the retainer.
2. Insert terminal of new wire harness into cavity No. 2 of A3 connector.
3. Carefully place wire harness under the bracket (as shown in Figure 4).
NOTE:
Do not pinch the wire harness between the bracket and compressor body.
4. With new Phillips-head screw, install wire harness diode on the bracket and the wire harness eyelet on top of the diode eyelet (as shown in Figure 5).
5. In order to prevent interference with the A/C pulley and belt, position excess wire length as far to the front of the vehicle as possible.
6. Install new speed sensor as shown in the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 model year Camry Repair Manual: Automatic Transmission/Trans: Speed Sensor: Replacement (Camry).
