Introduction

Under certain driving conditions, some 2003 - 2004 model year Camry vehicles (2AZ-FE PZEV) may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" with DTC P0142 stored (Oxygen Sensor Circuit malfunction, Bank 1 Sensor 3). The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) calibration has been revised to correct this condition.

Required SSTs

Repair Procedure

1. Check for Authorized Modification Label affixed to vehicle in location as shown in Figure 3. If there is no label, proceed to step 2.

2. Connect the Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle and select CURRENT ECU CAL from the ECU REPROGRAM MAIN MENU. Determine the vehicle's current ECU calibration. (See Figure 1.)

Flash Reprogram ECM

1. Remove the 10A ECU-IG fuse from the instrument panel Junction Block (refer to Figure 2 for location). This action prevents possible activation of the ABS relay, resulting in ECM Reprogramming failure.

NOTE:
ECU damage may occur if the 1OA fuse is NOT removed.

NOTE:

A battery charger MUST be connected to the battery and set at a medium charge setting during the Flash Reprogram procedure in order to maintain proper battery voltage and prevent damage to the ECM (PCM).

2. Follow the procedures outlined in TSB No. SS002-01 "ECU Flash Reprogramming Process."

3. Select proper ECM (PCM) calibration file for the vehicle model and reprogram ECM (PCM).

4. After flash reprogramming ECM, enter the following information on the Authorized Modifications Label using a permanent marker.

A. ECU Part Number and new Calibration ID.

B. Your Dealer Code.

C. Reprogramming Date.

D. This TSB number.

5. Attach the Authorized Modifications Label to the underside of the engine hood as shown.
