REPAIRS AND INSPECTIONS REQUIRED AFTER A COLLISIONCURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
Curtain Shield Air Bag Assy LH
CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSY (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the curtain shield airbag assy installed in the vehicle. Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the curtain shield airbag assy.
CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the curtain shield airbag assy removed from the vehicle.
- Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the curtain shield airbag assy.
- Check cuts and cracks in wire harness, and for chipping in connectors.

FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front passenger airbag assy installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel around the front passenger airbag assy.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front passenger airbag assy removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front passenger airbag assy.
- Cracks or other damage in the connectors.
- Deformation or cracks on the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement.
HINT: If the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement is deformed or cracked, never repair it. Always replace it with a new one.
CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the front passenger airbag assy, see "Replacement" and be sure to follow the correct procedure.
FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assy installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat back assy around the front seat airbag assy.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assy removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat airbag assy.
- Cracks or other damage in the wire harness or connector.
HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assy installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assy removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.
- Cracks or other damage in the connectors.
- Deformation of the steering wheel assy.
- Deformation of the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy.
HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy is deformed, never repair it. Always replace the horn button assy with a new one.
- There should be no interference between the horn button assy and steering wheel assy, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assy is installed on the steering wheel assy.
CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the horn button assy, see "Replacement" and be sure to follow the correct procedure.
OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

b. Perform a visual check for damage to the occupant classification ECU, which includes the following items even if the airbag was not deployed:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks or other damage in the connector

STEERING WHEEL PAD AND SPIRAL CABLE
HORN BUTTON ASSY (VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assy (with airbag) installed in the vehicle. Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.
HORN BUTTON ASSY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assy (with airbag) removed from the vehicle.
- Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assy top surface and in the grooved portion.
- Check cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in connectors.
- Check the deformation on the steering wheel.
- Check the deformation on the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy.
HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assy is deformed, never repair it. Always replace the horn button assy with a new one.
- There should be no interference between the horn button assy and steering wheel, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assy is installed on the steering wheel.
CAUTION: For removal and installation of the horn button assy, and be sure to follow the correct procedure.
HORN BUTTON ASSY (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
a. Do a diagnostic system check. *
b. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assy (with airbag) removed from the vehicle.
Check the damage on the spiral cable connector and wire harness.
HINT: There should be no interference between the horn button assy and steering wheel, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assy is installed on the steering wheel.

AIRBAG HARNESS
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
Perform a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Check for breaks in all wires of the SRS wire harness and exposed conductors.
c. Check to see if the SRS wire harness connectors are cracked or chipped.
HINT: The SRS wire harness is integrated with the engine room main wire, instrument panel wire, instrument panel wire No.2, floor wire, floor wire No.2, front seat LH wire TMC made.and front seat RH wire.
AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.

Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.

- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
Perform a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the front bumper of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag front sensor. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the airbag front sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
Replace the airbag front sensor.
AIRBAG SENSOR REAR
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
Perform a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the quarter panel of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag sensor rear. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the airbag sensor rear with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
Replace the airbag sensor rear.
FRONT / REAR AIRBAG SENSOR

a. Replace the curtain shield airbag assembly and airbag sensor rear.

SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below. If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.

- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- Both the SRS warning light and passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator light ( OFF ) come on.
- The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the center pillar of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number

Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.
