Introduction
Some 2004 model year Camry vehicles with a 4-speed automatic transmission may exhibit a vibration noise or shudder during the 1-2 upshift. This condition is most noticeable during moderate acceleration after the transaxle reaches operating temperature. The valve body has been improved to correct this condition.

Applicable Vehicles

^ 2004 model year Camry vehicles equipped with 2AZ-FE engine and 4-speed automatic transmission.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm the 1-2 upshift condition during test drive.

2. Replace the transmission valve body assembly by referring to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 model year Camry Repair Manual: Automatic Transmission/Trans: Transmission Valve Body Assy

3. Clear the "Learned Values" of the Engine Control Module (ECM, SAE term:
Powertrain Control Module, PCM) as described in TSB No. TC002-03, "ECM Reset Memory Function," Reset Procedure 1.
