DTC P0820 GEAR LEVER X-Y POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITDTC Detection Condition:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The shift lever assembly has a shift lever position sensor that monitors the movements of the shift lever. The shift lever position sensor judges the positions "R","N","S","+"and "-" of the shift lever based on the combinations of 8 switch signals. These 8 signals are divided into 2 groups: one is for main signals and the other is for check signals. When the main signals are ON, check signals are OFF. The transmission control ECU checks each status of the 8 signals, ON or OFF, at each position of the shift lever. When either of the following conditions is met, the transmission control ECU judges it to be a malfunction and illuminates the MIL and set a DTC.
1. The combination of the 8 shift lever switch signals, ON and OFF, does not meet the value specified in table 1.
2. The combination of the 8 shift lever switch signals, ON and OFF, meets the value specified in table 2, 5 times or more.
Monitor Strategy:

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: Read freeze frame data using hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool, as freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, etc. at the time of the malfunction.
