Removal and Replacement
REMOVALHINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before using to pry parts.
NOTE:
- If the wiring connector of the seat belt pretensioner is disconnected with the ignition switch ON, diagnostic trouble codes will be recorded.
- Never reuse a seat belt pretensioner of other vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.
1. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
Using a screwdriver, remove the front door scuff plate.
2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LIDS
Remove the 6 bolts and luggage compartment lids.
3. REMOVE LOWER REAR SEPARATOR TRIM COVER
a. Remove the screw and 2 clips.
b. Using a screwdriver, remove the lower rear separator trim cover.
4. REMOVE QUARTER TRIM PANEL
a. Remove the floor anchor mounting bolt and disconnect the front seat outer belt.
b. Remove the 2 clips.
c. Using a screwdriver, remove the quarter trim panel.
5. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT BOX
a. Remove the 2 screws.
b. Using a screwdriver, remove the luggage compartment box.
6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT
a. Remove the shoulder anchor mounting bolt and disconnect the front seat outer belt.
b. Disconnect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: When removing the seat belt pretensioner, the operation must be started in 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
c. Remove the 2 bolts and retractor of the front seat outer belt.
d. Only driver's side:
Disconnect the connector of the retractor switch.
REPLACEMENT
REPLACE REQUIREMENTS
In the following cases, replace the seat belt pretensioner.
- If the seat belt pretensioner has been activated.
- If the seat belt pretensioner has been found to be faulty in troubleshooting.
- If the front seat outer belt has been found to be faulty during checking item 1-(a) or 2-(b).
- If the front seat outer belt has been dropped.
CAUTION: For removal and installation of the seat belt pretensioner, Be sure to follow the correct procedure.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
- Never reuse seat belt pretensioner of other vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.
- Make sure that the front seat outer belt is installed with the specified torque.
- If the front seat outer belt has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front seat outer belt with a new one.
- When installing the front seat outer belt, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
1. INSTALL RETRACTOR OF FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT
a. Install the retractor of the front seat outer belt with the 2 bolts.
Torque:
Upper bolt: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)
Lower bolt: 43 N.m (440 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf)
b. Connect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration.
c. Only driver side:
Connect the retractor switch connector.
2. INSTALL FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT SHOULDER ANCHOR
Torque: 42 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf)
3. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT BOX
4. INSTALL QUARTER TRIM PANEL
5. INSTALL FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT FLOOR ANCHOR
Torque: 42 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf)
6. INSTALL LOWER REAR SEPARATOR TRIM COVER
7. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID
8. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE
