Axle Beam: Service and Repair

REPLACEMENT

HINT: COMPONENTS: See Suspension; Diagrams; Exploded Views.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)
3. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY RH (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)
4. REMOVE REAR DISC (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)

HINT: Use the same manner described to the other side.

5. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)

HINT: Use the same manner described to the other side.





6. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (W/ ABS)
a. Disconnect the skid control sensor connector.
b. Remove the bolt and clip, disconnect the skid control sensor wire.
c. Use the same manner described to the other side.
7. DISCONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.3
a. Remove the bolt, disconnect parking brake cable No.3.
8. DISCONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.2
a. Remove the bolt, disconnect parking brake cable No.2.
9. REMOVE STABILIZERS BAR REAR





10. DISCONNECT REAR BRAKE TUBE NO.4 (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)
a. Using SST, disconnect the rear brake tube No.4 from the flexible hose. Use a container to catch brake fluid as it drains out.

b. Remove the clip and disconnect the flexible hose.
11. DISCONNECT REAR BRAKE TUBE NO.3 (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)

HINT: Disconnect the RH side by the same procedures as the LH side.





12. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSY LH
a. Remove the 4 bolts and rear axle hub from the rear axle beam assy.
13. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSY RH HINT:
Remove the RH side by the same procedures as the LH side.





14. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
a. Remove the nut and rear shock absorber LH cushion retainer, separate the rear shock absorber with coil spring from the rear axle beam assy.
b. Use the same manner described to the other side.
15. REMOVE REAR AXLE BEAM ASSY





a. Support the rear axle beam assy with jack.





b. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and rear axle beam assy.





16. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER BUSH LH
a. Make matchmarks on the 2 notches of the bushing and axle beam.
b. Using a chisel and a hammer, bend the 2 portions of the bushing rib.

HINT: Bend the bushing rib until the claw of SST can be hung.

c. Using SST, remove the bushing from the axle beam.

NOTICE: If the rear axle beam assy has been scratched, apply the paint.

17. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER BUSH RH
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04020, 09955-04051, 09957-04010, 09958-4011), 09950-0010 (09951-00630)

HINT: Remove the RH side by the same procedure as the LH side.





18. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER BUSH LH
a. Align the matchmarks on the rear axle beam assy with the 2 notches of a new bushing and temporarily install the bushing to the rear axle beam assy.
b. Using SST, install the bushing to the axle beam.

NOTICE: Hang the claw of SST to the bushing deeply and firmly. Do not scratch the rubber portion of the bushing. Do not deform the bushing rib.

19. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER BUSH RH
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04020, 09955-04051, 09957-04010, 09958-04011), 09950-60010 (09951-00620), 09710-04101

HINT: Install the RH side by the same procedures as the LH side.





20. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN REAR AXLE BEAM ASSY
a. Support the rear axle beam assy with jack.
b. Install the rear axle beam assy and 2 bolts, temporarily tighten the 2 nuts.





21. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
a. Install the rear shock absorber with coil spring and rear shock absorber LH cushion retainer, temporarily tighten the nut.
b. Using the same manner described to the other side.





22. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB 8 BEARING ASSY LH
a. Install the rear axle hub with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 61 Nm (622 kgf-cm, 45 ft. lbs.)
23. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSY RH HINT:
Install the RH side by the same procedures as the LH side.
24. CONNECT REAR BRAKE TUBE NO.4 (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)





a. Temporarily tighten the rear brake tube No.4 and flexible hose.
b. Connect the rear brake tube No.4 with the clip to the rear axle beam assy.





c. Using SST, fully tighten the rear brake tube No.4.

Torque: 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
25. CONNECT REAR BRAKE TUBE NO.3 (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)
SST 09023-00100

HINT: Connect the RH side by the same procedures as the LH side.

26. INSTALL STABILIZER BAR REAR
27. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.3
a. Connect the parking brake cable No.3 with the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)
28. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO.2
a. Connect the parking brake cable No.2 with the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)





29. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (W/ ABS)
a. Connect the skid control sensor wire with the bolt and clip.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
b. Connect the skid control sensor connector.
c. Use the same manner described to the other side.
30. INSTALL REAR DISC (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)

HINT: Use the same manner described to the other side.

31. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)
32. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY RH (DISC REAR BRAKE TYPE)
33. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY (DRUM REAR BRAKE TYPE)

HINT: Use the same manner described to the other side.

34. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
a. Install the rear wheel and jack down the vehicle.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 746 ft. lbs.)
b. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension.





35. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR AXLE BEAM ASSY
a. Fully tighten the bolt.
Torque: 85 Nm (867 kgf-cm, 63 ft. lbs.)
b. Using the same manner described to the other side.





36. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
a. Fully tighten the nut.
Torque: 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.)
b. Using the same manner described to the other side.
37. BLEED BRAKE LINE
38. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID
39. INSPECT REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
40. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL (W/ ABS)
