Component Inspection

AIR PUMP SYSTEM (2ZZ-GE)
COMPONENTS INSPECTION

1. INSPECT AIR PUMP ASSY

a. Check the operation.
(1) Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery terminal 1 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to terminal 2.
(2) Check that the air flows.

If the operation is not as specified, replace the air pump.

2. INSPECT AIR PUMP RELAY

a. Check the continuity.

Tester Connection Specified Condition
1 - 2 Continuity
3 - 4 No Continuity
3 - 4 Continuity (Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2)

(1) Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the terminals.

If the result is not as specified, replace the air pump relay.

3. INSPECT AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSY

a. Check the operation.
(1) Apply vacuum 28 kPa (0.286 kgf/cm2, 4.061 psi) to port A, then blow air into port B. Check that air is discharged from port C.

If the operation is not as specified, replace the air switching valve.

4. INSPECT VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSY

a. Inspect the resistance.
(1) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

Resistance:....................33 to 39 ohms at 20°C (68°F)

If the resistance is not as specified, replace the vacuum switching valve.

b. Check the continuity.
(1) Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between each terminals and the body.

If there is continuity, replace the vacuum switching valve.

c. Check the operation.
(1) Check that air flows from port E to the filter.

(2) Apply battery positive voltage across the terminals.
(3) Check that air flow from ports E to F.

If the operation is not as specified, replace the vacuum switching valve.
