Rear Axle Carrier LH Replacement






REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL





2. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSY LH
a. Remove the nut, separate the rear stabilizer link assy LH.

HINT: If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to hold the stud.





3. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH NUT
a. Using SST and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the rear axle shaft LH nut.

b. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), remove the rear axle shaft LH nut.

NOTICE: Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged.

4. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY
5. SEPARATE SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
a. Remove the bolt, separate the speed sensor rear LH.
6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT SET LH

7. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE SHOE
SST 09718-00010
8. REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER LH
SST 09718-00010
9. REMOVE REAR BRAKE SHOE
SST 09718-00010
10. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY No. 3





11. SEPARATE REAR BRAKE TUBE No. 4
a. Using SST, separate the rear brake tube No. 4.
SST 09023-00100

HINT: Use a container to catch the brake fluid.

b. Remove the clip, separate the flexible hose.
12. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY No. 1 LH





a. Place matchmarks on the camber adjust cam.
b. Remove the nut, bolt and camber adjust cam.





c. Remove the nut and bolt, separate the rear suspension arm assy No. 1 LH.





13. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY
a. Remove the nut and bolt, separate the upper control arm assy.

HINT: Keep the nut fixed while loosening and removing the bolt.

14. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSY LH
a. Using a plastic hammer, separate the axle assy RR LH from the drive shaft, then remove it.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the boot and speed sensor rotor.





15. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR No. 1 LH
a. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, remove the dust deflector No. 1 LH.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the axle carrier.





16. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSY LH
a. Remove the 4 bolts, hub & bearing assy LH and carrier sub-assy LH.





17. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSY LH
a. Install the hub & bearing assy LH and carrier sub-assy LH with 4 bolts.
Torque: 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.)





18. INSTALL REAR WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR No. 1 LH
a. Using SST and a press, install a new dust deflector No. 1.
SST 09608-10010, 09950-60020 (09951-00680), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)





19. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY
a. Temporarily tighten the upper control arm assy with a new bolt and nut.
20. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSY LH
a. Fit the splines, insert the front drive shaft assy LH into the axle assy RR LH.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the boot and speed sensor rotor.

21. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY No. 1 LH





a. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assy No 1 LH with a new bolt and nut.





b. Temporarily tighten the adjust cam and adjust bolt with nut.





22. INSTALL REAR BRAKE TUBE No. 4
a. Install the flexible hose with clip
b. Using SST, install the rear brake tube No 4.
SST 09023-00100
Torque: 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
23. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY No. 3
24. APPLICATION HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE)
25. INSTALL REAR BRAKE SHOE
SST 09718-00010
26. INSTALL REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER LH
27. INSTALL FRONT BRAKE SHOE
SST 09718-000010
28. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT SET LH
29. INSTALL SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
^ Keep the speed sensor clean.
^ Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.

30. CHECK REAR DRUM BRAKE INSTALLATION
31. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY
32. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH NUT
a. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new rear axle shaft LH nut
Torque: 216 Nm (2,203 kgf-cm, 159 ft. lbs.)
33. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY





34. INSPECT BEARING BACKLASH
a. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the hub & bearing assy.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the hub & bearing assy.





35. INSPECT AXLE HUB DEVIATION
a. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the hub & bearing assy outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch)
If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the hub & bearing assy.
36. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSY
37. ADJUST REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE





38. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH NUT
a. Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the rear axle shaft LH nut.





39. INSTALL REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSY LH
a. Install the rear stabilizer link assy LH with the nut.
Torque: 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)

HINT: If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to hold the stud.

40. BLEED BRAKE LINE
41. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
42. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
43. FULLY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSY
44. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY No. 1 LH
45. CHECK FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR
46. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
47. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
