On-Vehicle Inspection
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. Smart Entry System Operation Inspection
a. Inspect the smart door unlock function.
1. Use the wireless lock operation to lock front doors. With the smart key in your possession, touch a door's outside handle (touch sensor) and check that all doors unlock.
2. Inspect the smart door unlock operation's detection area. Hold the smart key at the same height as the door's outside handle (approximately 80 cm). Pay attention to the direction of the smart key in the illustration. Check that when the smart key is brought within 70 to 100 cm (2.3 to 3.3 ft) of the vehicle, the system enters unlock standby mode. Unlock standby mode is signified by the smart key's red LED illuminating.
3. Once the system enters unlock standby mode, touch the outside handle's sensor within 3 seconds. Check that the door unlocks.
NOTE: The smart key cannot communicate with the system within a 20 cm radius of each outside handle.
4. Repeat steps (2) and (3) for the remaining doors.
5. Inspect the door oscillator's response sensitivity.
Wear protective gloves, set the system to unlock standby mode, and check that touching the inner side of the outside handle (the highlighted area in the illustration) with your index finger causes the door to unlock.
NOTE: When touching the highlighted area, tapping too quickly or having extended contact may not trigger the sensor. In such a case, the door will not unlock.
6. Repeat step (5) for the remaining doors.
b. Inspect the smart door lock function.
1. Close all of the vehicle's doors and set the system to unlock standby mode. With the smart key in your possession outside of the vehicle, check that pressing the lock switch locks front doors.
2. Inspect the smart door lock operation's detection area and the vehicle interior's wireless door lock receiver for wave leaks. Hold the smart key at the same height of 1 m (10 cm above the lower edge of the window frame). Pay attention to the direction and position of the smart key in the illustration. Check that when the smart key is approximately 30 cm (0.9 ft) from the vehicle and the lock switch is pressed, the front doors lock and the warning buzzer (for when the key is forgotten) does not sound.
NOTE: If the warning buzzer sounds, the vehicle interior's wireless door lock receiver may have a wave leak.
HINT: Due to the smart key being unable to communicate with the system within a 20 cm distance from the outside handle, do not press the lock switch with the same hand that is holding the smart key. The doors will not lock.
3. Repeat steps (1) and (2) for the remaining doors.
c. Inspect the smart trunk open function.
1. Close the back door. With the smart key in your possession, check that pressing the luggage electrical key switch (trunk switch) opens the back door.
2. Inspect the smart trunk open operation's detection area. Hold the smart key at the same height as the luggage electrical key switch (trunk switch) (approximately 80 cm) and aligned with the center of the rear of the vehicle. Pay attention to the direction of the smart key in the illustration. Check that when the smart key is brought within 70 to 100 cm (2.3 to 3.3 ft) of the vehicle, pressing the luggage electrical key switch (trunk switch) opens the back door.
d. Inspect the smart ignition function.
1. With the smart key in your possession, check that pressing the power switch will release the steering wheel lock. Then, check that turning the power switch from ON (ACC) to ON (IG) starts the hybrid control system.
HINT: The engine can be started only when the smart indicator is illuminated.
2. With the smart key in your possession, check that turning the power switch from ON (ACC) to ON (IG) to OFF stops the hybrid control system.
HINT: The shift position must be in P to be able to turn the power switch from ON (ACC) to OFF.
3. Inspect the smart ignition operation's detection area. Pay attention to the direction of the smart key in the illustration. When the smart key is in either of the two locations in the illustration, check that the engine can start.
NOTE: The engine cannot be started when the smart key is on the instrument panel or package tray, or in the glove box.
e. Inspect the smart key lock-in prevention function.
1. Place the smart key in the trunk. Check that: 1) closing the back door triggers the smart key's wireless buzzer (which lasts approximately 10 seconds), and 2) pressing the luggage electrical key switch (trunk switch) opens the back door.
2. Inspect the smart key lock-in prevention's detection area. Pay attention to the direction of the smart key in the illustration. When the smart key is in either of the two locations in the illustration, check that: 1) closing the back door sounds the smart key's wireless buzzer, and 2) pressing the luggage electrical key switch (trunk switch) opens the back door.
NOTE: If the smart key in inside a metal briefcase, metal box or any other metal storage item, the smart key will not be able to be detected by the system.
3. Inspect the smart key lock-in prevention's detection area and the trunk interior's wireless door lock receiver for wave leaks. Hold the smart key at the same height as the lower edge of the back door and aligned with the center of the rear of the vehicle. Pay attention to the direction and position of the smart key in the illustration. Check that when the smart key is over 10 cm (0.6 ft) from the vehicle's rear bumper, the smart key's wireless buzzer does not sound.
HINT: If the warning buzzer sounds, the trunk interior's wireless door lock receiver may have a wave leak.
f. Inspect the smart key cancel function.
1. While the power switch is ON (IG), check that the smart trunk open switch is the only switch in the smart key system that can be operated.
2. While the keyless entry cancel switch (smart system cancel switch) is ON, check that all switches in the smart key system cannot be operated.
g. Inspect the smart indicator function.
HINT: In case where an illuminated condition and a blinking condition are both satisfied, the indicator will illuminated.
h. Inspect the answer-back function (hazard warning lamp flashing and buzzer sounding).
