Introduction
Some 2004 or 2005 model year Prius vehicles may experience a false M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P0A7A, information code 325 (Generator Inverter Performance). Under some circumstances, this may be due to the Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU setting a false M.I.L. "ON" with no problem found. The Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU has been improved to address this condition.
NOTE:
Inverter replacement is NOT required in this circumstance.

^ 2004 model year Prius vehicles.
^ 2005 model year Prius vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Hybrid Component Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
For California specification 2004 Prius vehicles sold, registered, and operated in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont, this repair is covered under the California Emission Warranty, which is 180 months or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
For California specification 2005 Prius vehicles sold, registered, and operated in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont, this repair is covered under the California Emission Warranty, which is 180 months or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
1. Compare the parameters in the freeze frame and information code data to the table and proceed to step 2. If any of the items are outside the specified range, then proceed with normal diagnosis and/or TSB No. EG025-05, M.I.L. "ON" DTC POA6O, P0A63, P0A72, P0A78, or POA7A."
2. If the information contained in the freeze frame and information code data matches the parameters specified in the table above, remove and replace the Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 or 2005 model year Prius Repair Manual: Hybrid Control System: Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU: Replacement
