Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences





Using several steps, temporarily install the cylinder head bolts with an 8 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the sequence shown in the illustration, then tighten the bolts with the specified torque.
Torque 29 Nm (296 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.)





Check the front marks and numbers on the bearing caps No. 1 and No. 2, then tighten the bolts uniformly in several steps in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque:
23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.) for Bearing Cap No. 1
13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9.6 ft. lbs.) for Bearing Cap No. 2





Temporarily tighten the 9 bolts and 2 nuts on the cylinder head cover.
Using several steps, tighten the bolts and nuts with the specified torque in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7.4 ft. lbs.)





Crankshaft Bearing Cap:
1st 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.)
2nd turn 90°





INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Install a new gasket, then install the exhaust manifold.
Tighten the 3 bolts and 2 nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.)
Install the exhaust manifold heat insulator No. 1 with the 4 bolts.
Torque 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)

INSPECT CYLINDER HEAD FOR FLATNESS
Using a precision straight edge and feeler gauge, measure the warpage on the cylinder block side and the intake and exhaust manifold sides.
Maximum warpage:
0.05 mm (0.0020 inch for cylinder block side
0.10 mm (0.0039 inch) for intake manifold side
0.10 mm (0.0039 inch) for exhaust manifold side

INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD SET STRAIGHT PIN
Using a plastic-faced hemmer, tap in a new cylinder head straight pin.
Standard protrusion 8.5 to 9.5 mm (0.335 to 0.374 inch)

INSTALL OIL PUMP SET RING PIN
Using a plastic-faced hammer, tap in a new oil pump ring pin.
Standard protrusion 3.5 to 4.5 mm (0.138 to 0.177 inch)





Camshaft bearing bolts
Torque:
23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.) for Bearing Cap No. 1
13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9.6 ft. lbs.) for Bearing Cap No. 2
Connecting Rod bolts:
1st 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
2nd turn 90°
Crankshaft pulley 128 Nm (1305 kgf-cm, 95 ft. lbs.)
Flywheel Sub-assy 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)





Install the oil pump assembly with the 15 bolts and nut as illustrated.
Torque:
32 Nm (326 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.) for Bolt A
11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8.1 ft. lbs.) for Bolt B
11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8.1 ft. lbs.) for Bolt C
24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.) for Nut D
24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.) for Bolt E
WATER PUMP ASSY
Install a new gasket, then install the water pump assembly with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8.1 ft. lbs.)
