TSB REVISION NOTICE:
February 07, 2005: Step 3 was added to the "Disassembly Procedure".
All previous versions of this TSB should be discarded.

Some customers may complain of a "rubbing" or a "shuddering" type noise when tilting the moonroof glass up or down. The moonroof (sliding roof) panel sub-assembly has been modified to improve this condition.

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE:





1. Remove RH and LH Moonroof Garnish.
Refer to ETAS 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual:
Section: Sliding Roof/Convertible;
Subsection: Sliding Roof (coupe); Replacement

a. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw "A" and 4 claws "B."

NOTE:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the side garnish.

2. Remove Moonroof Glass Sub-assembly.
a. Using a torx driver (T25), remove the 4 screws and roof glass.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and drive gear.

3. Cycle moon roof with the glass removed. If the noise is gone, replace the moon roof glass with a new service part. If the noise is still present, do not replace the moon roof glass. The source of the noise is the frame and/or cable assembly. Refer to ETAS, 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual: Sliding Roof: Sliding Roof/Convertible: Sliding Roof (coupe): Replacement.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Install Moonroof Glass Sub-assembly.
Refer to ETAS 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual:
Section: Sliding Roof/Convertible;
Subsection: Sliding Roof (coupe); Replacement

a. Using a torx wrench (T25), tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 4.5 N-m (45 Kgf-cm, 40 in.-lbf)





2. Adjust Moonroof Glass Sub-assembly.
a. Check for clearance between the roof glass and roof panel. Using a torx wrench (T25), loosen the 4 screws and adjust the sliding roof panel position.

Difference 0 +/-- 1.4 mm (0 +/-- 0.055 in.)

3. Check for Water Leaks.
a. After adjusting moonroof, check for leaks with water. If moonroof leaks, readjust the moonroof.

4. Reinstall LH and RH Moonroof Side Garnish.
