Introduction

Some customers may indicate that there is a tick noise from the base of the A" pillar near the corner of the windshield while driving. This TSB explains how to minimize this condition.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS): 2004 model year Solara Repair Manual:

Audio & Visual System: Front No. 2 Speaker Assy: Replacement (Solara).

1. Remove the instrument panel speaker panel sub-assembly. Disengage the 2 clips (claw type) and remove the speaker grille.





2. Remove the front speaker No. 2 assembly.

A. Remove the speaker attaching bolts.

B. Disconnect the wire connector.

3. Grasp the U-shaped nut (closest to the "A" pillar) and carefully slide the nut off the instrument panel sub-assembly.





4. Remove the backing and place half of the felt piece on the back side of the U-shaped clip as shown in Figure 2.

Felt Size:
Width: 15 mm (0.59 in.)
Length: 20 mm (0.79 in.)
Thickness: 1 mm (0.04 in.)

5. Slide the U-shaped nut onto the instrument panel sub-assembly.

6. Affix the loose end of the felt to the back side of the instrument panel as shown.

7. Reinstall the wire connector, speaker, bolts, and speaker grille.

8. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the effectiveness of the repair.
