INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD

Instrument Panel Safety Pad:

REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION
Refer to Restraint Systems; Service Precautions.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.

3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER
5. REMOVE STEERING PAD
6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER
8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
9. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Coupe)
11. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Convertible)
12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (for Coupe)
13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (for Convertible)
14. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Coupe)
15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Convertible)
16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (for Coupe)
17. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (for Convertible)
18. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL

a. Disengage the 5 clips.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the lower instrument cluster finish panel.

19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE
20. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL

a. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

21. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY

a. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the No. 1 instrument panel register assembly.

22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 clips from the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.
b. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

23. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 3 screws.
b. Pull out the combination meter assembly, then disconnect the connectors.

24. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LH

a. Using a screwdriver, open the cover of the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the bolt and the screw .

c. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.
d. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.
e. Disconnect the connectors.

25. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL INSERT SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

a. Disconnect the DLC3 connector.
b. Remove the 5 bolts or and the lower instrument panel insert sub-assembly LH.

26. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)

a. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

27. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)

a. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

28. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)

a. Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the rear console upper panel sub-assembly.

29. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)
a. Set the shift lever in the N position.
b. Using a moulding remover, disengage the claw and the 8 clips, and remove the rear console upper panel sub-assembly.

30. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the console box carpet.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and the 2 screws .
c. Disconnect the connectors.
d. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the rear console box assembly.

31. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Disengage the 4 clips.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

32. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. As shown in the illustration, push on the upper side of the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly from the back of the meter to make a clearance.

NOTICE: Perform this procedure wearing protective gloves.

b. Pull the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly towards you using your fingers to disengage each clip.

c. Disconnect the connector and remove the center instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

33. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System)
34. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)
35. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Disengage the 3 claws, pull the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow, and remove it.

36. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH

a. Remove the bolt and the 4 screws .
b. Disengage the claw and clip, then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel RH.

37. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX

a. Remove the 3 screws and 2 nuts .
b. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the front console box.

38. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
39. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
40. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
41. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
42. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
43. REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY
44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP

a. Using a screwdriver, remove the instrument panel safety pad cap.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

45. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
46. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the bolts and or .
b. Remove the bolts .
c. Remove the screws and or .
d. Remove the nut .
e. Disconnect the connectors.
f. Pull the instrument panel safety pad towards you and check that none of the wire harnesses are stuck in the body.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Temporarily install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
b. Connect the connectors.
c. Install the bolt indicated in the illustration.

Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

d. Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly with the bolts or , , screws and or and nut .

2. CONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
3. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD CAP
4. INSTALL NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
8. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH
9. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
10. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE BOX
11. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RH
12. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System)
14. INSTALL CENTER CLUSTER INTEGRATION PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)
15. INSTALL CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

44. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER
45. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER
46. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
47. PERFORM INITIALIZATION

NOTICE: Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.
