Speaker Circuit

NAVIGATION SYSTEM: Speaker Circuit

Speaker Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The sound signal that has been amplified by the stereo component amplifier assembly is sent to the speakers from the stereo component amplifier assembly through this circuit.
If there is a short in this circuit, the stereo component amplifier assembly detects it and stops output to the speakers.
Thus sound can not be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the stereo component amplifier assembly or speakers.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEREO COMPONENT AMPLIFIER - SPEAKER ASSEMBLY)
(a) Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration from the stereo component amplifier assembly and speakers.

(1) Coupe model

(2) Convertible model

(b) Measure the resistance between the speakers and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
Below 1 Ohms
(c) Measure the resistance between the speakers and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
Standard resistance:
10 kOhms or higher
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CONFIRM MODEL
Result:

B -- INSPECT FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
A -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSEMBLY

(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:

NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.

NG -- REPLACE NO. 1 WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.

Standard resistance:
Coupe: 3 to 4 Ohms
Convertible: 4 to 6 Ohms
NG -- REPLACE FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.
OK:
Malfunction disappears.

HINT:
- Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
- When there is a possibility that either right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one and the left one.

OK -- REPLACE FRONT NO.2 SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
NG -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
(a) Resistance check.
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.

Standard resistance:
Coupe: 1.75 to 2.75 Ohms
Convertible: Approximately 2.4 Ohms
NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEAKER ASSEMBLY
OK -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
