INTRODUCTION:
Some 2007-2010 model year TMMK built Camry and Camry HV vehicles may exhibit a condition where the roof makes a popping noise when tilting or opening the sliding roof glass. The noise is created by interference between the back of the sliding roof opening and the sliding roof glass rim on the back of the glass.
Follow the procedures outlined in this bulletin to address this condition.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

REQUIRED TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Confirm the popping noise occurs when the sliding roof is tilted or opened.
2. Verify that noise is caused by interference between the sliding roof panel and the roof of the vehicle.







3. Remove the left sliding roof side garnish by disengaging the 6 claws.
4. Remove the right sliding roof side garnish by disengaging the 6 claws.
5. Move the sliding roof panel to the "tilt" position.







6. Loosen the 4 sliding roof glass subassembly bolts, using a T25 TORX driver.

NOTE:
Do NOT remove the bolts.


7. Insert plastic shims.












Place two 100 mm wide, 2 mm thick plastic shims (3M PA1-B Hand Applicator or equivalent) along the rear edge of the roof opening, positioned 250 mm from the side of the roof opening to the center of each shim.












8. Move the sliding roof panel to the "closed" position.

NOTE:
Do NOT remove the shims.












9. Level the sliding roof panel.

NOTE:
Measure the difference in level "a" between the roof panel and the upper surface of the weatherstrip when the sliding roof glass is fully closed.








10. Tighten the 4 sliding roof glass subassembly bolts, using a T25 TORX driver.
Torque: 4 N-m(35 in-lbf)

11. Move the sliding roof assembly to the "tilt" position and remove the shims.
12. Close the sliding roof.







13. Install the left sliding roof side garnish by engaging the 6 claws.
14. Install the right sliding roof side garnish by engaging the 6 claws.
15. Cycle the sliding roof from the "Closed" position to the "Tilt" position to the "Open" position to ensure pop noise has been eliminated and sliding roof is fully functional.
16. If condition is NOT eliminated, replace the sliding roof glass assembly and repeat steps 3-17.
17. Perform leak test on vehicle to ensure water tightness.
18. Road test vehicle and listen for excess wind noise around the sliding roof area.
