Applicability
Introduction
Some 2007 - 2009 model year NAP-built Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine may exhibit a rattle noise from the exhaust center pipe when accelerating. An improved exhaust center pipe has been developed and implemented in production to address this condition. Use the following repair procedure to diagnose and repair customer complaint vehicles.

Warranty Information
APPLICABLE WARRANTY
- This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
- For California specification vehicles sold, registered, and operated in the following states, this repair is covered under the California Emission Warranty, which is 36 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
- California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont (starting with 2007 MY)
- Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island (starting with 2008 MY)
- New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington (starting with 2009 MY)
- Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Test drive the vehicle and verify that there is an abnormal rattle noise heard while accelerating.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist with the engine running.
3. Increase the engine speed and listen to the resonator section of the exhaust center pipe with a stethoscope for a rattle noise.
CAUTION:
Avoid contacting any part of the exhaust system - it is VERY HOT.
4. Did the noise appear to be the loudest at the resonator section of the exhaust center pipe?
- YES - Replace the exhaust center pipe. Test drive the vehicle after repair to confirm the rattle noise has been addressed.
- NO - This service bulletin does NOT apply. Proceed with additional diagnosis of the rattle concern.
