Title
Vibration Between 56 - 72 KM/H

Component
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Models
'07 - '09 Camry

INTRODUCTION

Some customers may experience a vibration feeling most noticeable under light acceleration between 56 - 72 km/h on 2007 - 2009 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine and 5 speed automatic transaxle. The Engine Control Module/ECM calibration has been revised. Use the following repair procedure to address customer concerns.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:

PARTS INFORMATION:

NOTE:
- The ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) should NOT be replaced as part of the repair procedure.
- Authorized Modification Labels may be ordered in packages of 25 from your facing PDC.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Connect techstream to the vehicle and perform a Health Check to check for any DTC(s) and the current ECM (PCM) calibration ID.

Are there any DTC(s) present in the ECM (PCM)?
- YES - This TSB does NOT apply. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) and diagnose DTC(s).
- NO - Go to Step 2.

2. Does the current calibration ID match one of the previous calibration IDs above?
- YES - Go to Step 3.
- NO - This TSB does NOT apply. Refer to TIS and diagnose the vibration.

3. Test drive the vehicle between 56 - 72 km/h in 5th gear under light acceleration to confirm the customer concern of vibration.
Is the vibration duplicated under these conditions?
- YES - Go to step 4.
- NO - This TSB does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis to determine the root cause of the vibration.

4. Use Techstream to take a snapshot when the vibration is occurring to confirm it is related to this TSB and not other issues (wheel balance, tire wear, etc.).

Configure snapshot as follows:
30 Second Duration
Trigger Point at Midpoint (50%)

NOTE
Refer to the University of Toyota online training class P901C "Techstream In Depth" for information about taking snapshots and graphing snapshots on Techstream.

5. Use Data List and the graphing functions of the Snapshot feature to confirm the following data parameters when the vibration condition occurs:
- Vehicle Speed
- Shift Status
- Lock Up
- Lock Up Solenoid Status

- If the vibration occurs with the following parameters:
- Lock Up "OFF"
- Lock Up Solenoid Status "ON"

Then the vibration is related to ECM (PCM) calibration.Go to step 6.

- If the vibration occurs with the following parameters:
- Lock Up "OFF"
- Lock Up Solenoid Status "OFF"

Then the vibration is NOT related to ECM (PCM) calibration and this TSB DOES NOT APPLY. Continue diagnosis to determine the root cause of the vibration.

6. Check for the Authorized Modifications Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown in Figure 1. Confirm if the ECM (PCM) calibration has been updated. If the calibration ID listed is NOT the latest ECM (PCM) calibration - go to step 7.
7. Flash Reprogram the ECM (PCM).

NOTE
- The GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station MUST be used in Power Supply Mode to maintain battery voltage at 13.5 volts while flash reprogramming the vehicle.
- For details on how to use the GR8 Battery Diagnostic Station, refer to the GR8 Instruction Manuallocated on the Technical Information System (TIS), Diagnostics - Battery.

Follow the procedures outlined in TSB2758, "Techstream ECU Flash Reprogramming Procedure",and flash the ECM (PCM) with the NEW calibration file update.

8. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature before test driving.
9. Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper vehicle operation and ECM (PCM) initial learning.

Refer to the Repair Manual within E-TAS / TIS library:
- Division: Toyota
- Model: Camry
- Year: 2007 / 2008 / 2009
- Service Category: Drivetrain
- Section: Automatic Transmission / Transaxle
- Keyword: U250E Automatic Transaxle: Automatic Transaxle System: Road Test

10. Install the Authorized Modifications Label.

A. Using a permanent marker, enter the following information on the label:
- ECM part number[Refer to the Parts Information section for the CURRENT PART NUMBER]
- Calibration ID(s)[Refer to the Calibration Identification Chart for the new CALIBRATION ID]
- Dealer Code
- Repair Date
- Change Authority [This TSB number]

B. Affix the Authorized Modifications Label to the vehicle at the location shown in Figure 1. The Authorized Modifications Label is available through the MDC, P/N 00451-00001-25.

NOTE:
Issue of this Technical Service Bulletin is to ensure that proper repair information is available. IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN AUTHORIZATION FOR REPAIR. Normal provisions of the formal warranty policy, as applicable, will apply.
