INTRODUCTION:
Some 2006 - 2009 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine and U250E automatic transaxle (ATM) may exhibit a harsh 5-4 downshift under the following conditions:
- ATM at normal operating temperature
- After driving above 45 mph (72 km/h)
- Decelerating through 28 mph (45 km/h)
The Line Pressure Control Solenoid Assembly (SLT) has been improved to reduce this condition customer complaint vehicles.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2006 - 2009 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine and 5-Speed ATM produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Test drive and verify that the 5-4 harsh downshift condition occurs as described in "Introduction".
2. Replace the SLT solenoid following the instructions found on ETAS:
- 2006 model year Camry Repair Manual: Automatic Transmission/Trans: Transmission Valve Body Assy (U250E): Replacement
- 2007 or 2008 or 2009 model year Camry Repair Manual: U250E Automatic Transaxle: Shift Solenoid Valve: Removal, Disassembly, Inspection, Reassembly
NOTE:
For SLT solenoid identification, refer to TSB No. 2290, "U250E Transmission Solenoid Identification."
3. Reinstall the automatic transaxle oil pan following the instructions on TIS:
- 2006 model year Camry Repair Manual: Automatic Transmission/Trans: Transmission Valve Body Assy (U250E): Replacement
- 2007 or 2008 or 2009 model year Camry Repair Manual: U250E Automatic Transaxle: Shift Solenoid Valve: Installation
4. Test drive and verify that the ATM operates normally.
