Introduction

Some 2007-2009 Camry customers may experience a condition where the front center console door will not open due to interference with the lower edge of the HVAC unit. Follow the repair procedure below to address this condition.

Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Required Tools & Equipment

Repair Procedure





1. Remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly by turning it counterclockwise.








2. Remove the No.1 and No.2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish by disengaging the 2 clips.





3. Remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.

For automatic transaxle equipped vehicles remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.

A. Disengage the 6 claws and 3 clips as shown.

B. Disconnect Seat Heater connector if equipped.

Disconnect each connector.

4. Remove the upper console panel.

For manual transaxle:

A. Open the lid of the upper console panel.





B. Apply protective tape to the area shown in the illustration.





C. Using a plastic pry tool disengage the 2 claws and the 5 clips and then remove the upper console panel as shown.





5. Remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.

A. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.

B. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.





6. Remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

A. Remove the 2 screws.

B. Disengage the 4 claws.

C. Disconnect each connector and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

7. Remove instrument panel No.2 register assembly.





A. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.





B. Using a molding remover disengage the 3 clips.





C. Using a molding remover disengage the 4 clips.

D. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument panel No.2 register assembly.

8. Loosen the 4 radio bracket bolts.





9. While pulling upward on the Radio/HVAC unit tighten the 4 radio bracket bolts.





10. Confirm the correct routing of the HVAC control wire harness.

11. Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.

12. Verify the repair by ensuring the proper operation of the center console door.
