M.I.L. "ON" DTC P011B

Component
Engine Mechanical

Models
'09 Camry

INTRODUCTION:
Some 2009 model year NAP produced Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC):
- P011B - Engine Coolant Temperature/Intake Air Temperature Correlation

An improved intake air flow meter has been developed and implemented in production to address this condition. Use the following repair procedure to diagnose and repair customer complaint vehicles.

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

REQUIRED SSTS:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using Techstream, confirm that DTC P011B is present (ignition key on, engine off).

2. Review the Freeze Frame Data (FFD) and compare the "Coolant Temp" value to the "Intake Air" value.
3. Is the "Intake Air" value in the FFD at least 20°C lower than the "Coolant Temp" value?

Example: In the FFD in Figure 1 above, there is a 65°F difference.

HINT
The "Coolant Temp" value on the FFD list should be close to ambient temperature at the time of M.I.L. "ON" experienced by the customer (ignition key on, engine off).

- If YES - Replace the intake air flow meter assembly.
Refer to the Repair Manual within E-TAS / TIS library:
- Model: Camry
- Year: 2009
- Service Category: Engine/Hybrid System
- Section: Engine Control
- Keyword: 2AZ-FE Engine Control System: Mass Air Flow Meter: Removal and Installation

- If NO - This TSB does NOT apply. Proceed with the Repair Manual diagnostic procedure for DTC P011B.

4. Clear DTCs.
5. Confirm the repair.

HINT
Do NOT use the vehicle's outside temperature gauge for the ambient temperature value.

It may NOT be accurate at the time of the comparison. Some models have a delayed response to actual temperature variations. Use an accurate thermometer to determine outside ambient air temperature.

Issue of this Technical Service Bulletin is to ensure that proper repair information is available. DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN AUTHORIZATION FOR REPAIR. Normal provisions of the formal warranty policy, as applicable, will apply.
