INTRODUCTION:
Some customers may complain that the front center console door is difficult to open due to the Front Center Console Assembly being misaligned. Please remove and reassemble the Front Center Console Assembly using the following procedures to correct this condition.

NOTE:
The Front Center Console Assembly does NOT need to be replaced.


APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2007-2009
model year Camry vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Remove and reinstall the Front Center Console Assembly.
Refer to ETAS, 2007 model year Camry Repair Manual: Instrument Panel: Instrument Panel Safety Pad: Removal, Disassembly, Reassembly.







1. Remove the LH and RH front door scuff plate.
Disengage the 7 claws and 3 clips, and remove the LH and RH front door scuff plate.







2. Remove the LH and RH cowl side trim sub assembly.
A. Remove the cowl side trim clip.
B. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the LH and RH cowl side trim sub-assembly.







3. Remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.
A. Remove the bolt "A" and the screw "B".
B. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.
C. Disengage the claw and the 9 clips.
D. Remove the air hose, disconnect the connector, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.







4. Remove the instrument panel No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.
A. Disengage the 4 claws.
B. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.







5. Remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.
A. Remove the bolt "A".
B. Remove the screw "B" and then the 3 screws "C".
C. Disengage the 3 claws and the 3 clips.
D. Disconnect the connector and remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.







6. Remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.







Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.







7. Remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.
Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.







8. Remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.
Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.







9. Remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub- assembly.

For automatic transaxle:
A. Disengage the 6 claws and the 3 clips, and then remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.

B. With Seat Heater System:
Disconnect each connector.







10. Remove the upper console panel.
For manual transaxle:
A. Open the lid of the upper console panel.
B. Apply protective tape to the area shown in the illustration.







C. Using a plastic pry tool (or equivalent), disengage the 2 claws and the 5 clips, and then remove the upper console panel as shown in the illustration.







11. Remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.
For automatic transaxle:
A. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.
B. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.







For manual transaxle:
A. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.
B. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.







12. Remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.
A. Remove the 2 screws.
B. Disengage the 4 claws.
C. Disconnect each connector and remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.







13. Remove the console box carpet.







14. Remove the console box assembly.
A. Remove the 2 screws.







B. Disengage the clamp.
C. Remove the 2 bolts and the console box assembly.







15. Remove the No. 2 console box insert front.
A. Remove the 3 screws.
B. Disengage the clip and remove the No. 2 console box insert front.







16. Remove the No. 1 console box insert front.
A. Remove the 3 screws "A", "B", and "C".
B. Disengage the clip and remove the No. 1 console box insert front.

17. Install the No. 1 console box insert front.
A. Engage the upper clip.
B. Install and tighten the upper screw "A".
C. Install and tighten the lower screw "B".
D. Install and tighten the rear screw "C".

NOTE:
NOT following the proper screw installation sequence above will result in misalignment of the center console door.








18. Install the No. 2 console box insert front.
A. Engage the upper clip.
B. Install and tighten the upper screw "A".
C. Install and tighten the lower screw "B".
D. Install and tighten the rear screw "C".

NOTE:
NOT following the proper screw installation sequence above will result in misalignment of the center console door.








19. Shave 1.5 mm (0.06 in.) off the bottom of the Front Center Console Assembly locating tabs.







20. Ensure that the HVAC control wire harness is properly routed upward and behind the bracket as shown to prevent interference with the console door when opening.
21. Install remaining parts in the reverse order of disassembly.
