Speaker Circuit
AUDIO / VIDEO: AUDIO AND VISUAL SYSTEM: Speaker Circuit
Speaker Circuit
DESCRIPTION
- If the vehicle has a built-in type amplifier, a sound signal is sent from the radio receiver to the speakers via the "Except for 8 Speakers" circuit.
- If the vehicle has a separate type amplifier, a sound signal from the radio receiver is amplified by the stereo component amplifier and then transmitted to the speaker via the "for 8 Speakers" circuit.
If there is a short in this circuit, the stereo component amplifier detects it and stops output to the speakers.
Thus sound cannot be heard from the speakers even if there is no malfunction in the stereo component amplifier or speakers.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
(a) Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration from the stereo component amplifier or radio receiver and speakers.
(b) for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 3 speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(c) for 6 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 2 speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(d) for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(e) for 4 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(f) for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the rear speakers and the stereo component amplifier to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(g) Except for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the rear speakers and the radio receiver to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(h) for 6 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speaker and front No. 2 speaker to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(i) for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between the stereo component amplifier and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
(j) Except for 8 Speakers:
Measure the resistance between each speaker or radio receiver and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
Standard Resistance:
- *1: for 6 Speakers
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard Resistance:
for 8 Speakers
Except for 8 Speakers
NG -- REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CONFIRM MODEL
Result:
B -- INSPECT REAR SPEAKER
A -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEAKER
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CONFIRM MODEL
Result:
B -- INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
A -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
6. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
(a) Check that the malfunction disappears when a known good speaker is installed.
OK:
Malfunction disappears.
HINT:
- Connect all the connectors to the front No. 2 speaker.
- When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one with the left one.
- Perform the above inspection on both LH and RH sides.
NG -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
OK -- REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER
7. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check
(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
for Tweeter
for Woofer
NOTE: The speaker should not be removed when checking resistance.
NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEAKER
OK -- Continue to next step.
8. INSPECT FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER
(a) Resistance check
(1) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPLACE FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER
OK -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
