Trunk Lid Will Not Stay at the Fully Open Position

Applicability

Introduction

Some 2009 - 2010 model year NAP (North American Production) Corolla vehicles not equipped with a rear deck lid spoiler may exhibit a condition where the trunk lid will not stay in the fully open position. Use the following repair information to correct this condition.

NOTE

This bulletin only applies to vehicles not equipped with a rear spoiler.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.





Required Tools & Equipment

Repair Procedure

Removal

1. Remove the left luggage door hinge torsion bar (LH).





A. Disconnect the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH from the luggage compartment door torsion bar support as shown in the illustration.





B. Using the SST, disconnect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH from the luggage door hinge and the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

SST: 09804-24010

NOTE

If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.





C. Disconnect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH and remove it from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

2. Remove the right luggage door hinge torsion bar (RH).





A. Disconnect the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH from the luggage compartment door torsion bar support as shown in the illustration.

B. Using the SST disconnect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH from the luggage door hinge and the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

SST: 09804-24010

NOTE

If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.





C. Disconnect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH and remove it from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

Installation

HINT

^ Install the right side first, then the left side.

^ After installing each torsion bar, use your hand to open and close the luggage door. Make sure that the luggage door can be opened and closed smoothly.

1. Install the NEW Torsion Bar RH.

The RH luggage door hinge torsion bar is identified by a red identification mark for NAP built vehicles without Rear Spoiler.





A. Connect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.





B. Using the SST, connect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to install it on the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

NOTE

If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.





C. Connect the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to the luggage compartment door torsion bar support as shown in the illustration.

2. Install the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH.

NOTE

The LH luggage door hinge torsion bar is identified by a light blue identification mark for NAP built vehicles without Rear Spoiler.





A. Connect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.





B. Using the SST connect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to install it on the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

NOTE

If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.





C. Connect the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to the luggage compartment door torsion bar support as shown in the illustration.

3. Open and close the trunk confirming proper operation.
