INTRODUCTION:
Some 2009 - 2010 model year NAP (North American Production) Corolla vehicles may exhibit a condition where the trunk lid will not stay in the fully open position. Use the following repair information to correct this condition.
APPLICABILITY:

This TSB applies to
- ALL 2009 - 2010 model year NUMMI (WMI = 1NX) built vehicles
- 2009 - 2010 model year TMMC (WMI = 2T1) built vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
REMOVAL
1. Remove the left luggage door hinge torsion bar (LH).
A. Disconnect the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH from the luggage compartment door torsion bar support.
B. Using the SST, disconnect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH from the luggage door hinge and the vehicle body.
SST: 09804-24010
NOTE:
If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.
C. Disconnect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH and remove it from the vehicle body.
2. Remove the right luggage door hinge torsion bar (RH).
A. Disconnect the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH from the luggage compartment door torsion bar support.
B. Using the SST, disconnect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH from the luggage door hinge and the vehicle body.

NOTE:
If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.
C. Disconnect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH and remove it from the vehicle body.
INSTALLATION
HINT
- Install the right side first, then the left side.
- After installing each torsion bar, use your hand to open and close the luggage door. Make sure that the luggage door can be opened and closed smoothly.
1. Install the NEW Torsion Bar RH.
NOTE:
RH luggage door hinge torsion bars for NAP built vehicles are identified by a red identification mark without a Rear Spoiler and by a yellow identification mark with a Rear Spoiler.
A. Connect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to the vehicle body.
B. Using the SST, connect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to install it on the vehicle.

NOTE:
If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.
C. Connect the luggage door hinge torsion bar RH to the luggage compartment door torsion bar.
2. Install the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH.
NOTE:
LH luggage door hinge torsion bars for NAP built vehicles are identified by a light blue identification mark without a Rear Spoiler and by a white identification mark with a Rear Spoiler.
A. Connect the right end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to the vehicle body.
B. Using the SST, connect the left end of the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to install it on the vehicle body.

NOTE:
If the SST is unavailable, the above procedure can be performed without the SST.
C. Connect the luggage door hinge torsion bar LH to the luggage compartment door torsion bar support.
3. Open and close the trunk confirming proper operation.
