Introduction
Some customers may request to have the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) on their Corolla vehicle disabled. These customers may live or work at military bases or in communities that have light-sensitive gates or guardhouses. This bulletin provides instructions for disabling the feature.
If the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) have been previously disabled the information in this bulletin can assist in enabling the feature at the request of the customer.
Customers requesting this modification must be informed that the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) will no longer operate after this bulletin is performed. In addition, the Automatic Headlamp feature will default to a standard or manual headlight function and no longer turn the head lamps on automatically after this modification. The DRL and auto-headlamp features are valuable vehicle safety features but are not required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Repair Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the glove compartment and locate the Daytime Running Light (DRL) relay.
3. Examine the E91 connector to the DRL relay.
4. Locate the blue wire in the terminal 12 position.
Terminal 12 is "IG" in the EWD.
As installed in the vehicle terminal 12 is located on the right side of the connector.
5. Measure out 1 inch from the DRL relay connector and cut the wire cleanly. If DRL function is to be restored in the future enough wire will be available to re-secure the ends together using the instruction manual in the Wire Harness Repair Kit.
6. Using vinyl electrical tape wrap and insulate the cut ends of the wires from each other then secure them to the outside of the wire harness using additional vinyl tape.
CAUTION
Be careful to secure the wire ends with adequate tape to prevent loosening as this is a 12 volt source voltage wire.
7. Reconnect the battery and verify that DRL and Automatic Headlamp operation is disabled and other lighting functions are normal.
8. When the negative (-) battery cable is reconnected please check and reset electrical components such as the clock radio etc. and re-initialize all applicable systems/functions.
