P112 HYBRID BATTERY CONTROL: HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM: P0A80: Replace Hybrid Battery Pack

DTC P0A80 - Replace Hybrid Battery Pack

DESCRIPTION

The HV battery assembly consists of nickel hydride batteries. Nickel hydride batteries do not require external charging. The SOC (state of charge) of the HV battery is maintained at a constant voltage level by the hybrid vehicle control ECU while the vehicle is being driven. In the HV battery assembly, 28 modules are connected in series, and each module has six 1.2 V cells that are connected in series. Thus, the HV battery assembly contains a total of 168 cells which produce 201.6 V.
The battery ECU, which monitors two modules as a single battery block, detects the battery block voltage at a total of 14 locations.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The battery ECU, which monitors the voltage of the battery blocks, determines that malfunction has occurred if a voltage difference between the battery blocks exceeds the standard. When the malfunction detection condition is satisfied, the battery ECU illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. READ DTC OUTPUT (DTC P0A1F IS OUTPUT)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch ON (IG) and the tester ON.
(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Read DTCs.
Result:
DTC P0A1F is output
YES -- GO TO RELEVANT DTC CHART
NO -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK BATTERY ECU
(a) Ensure the safety of the areas in front and at the back of the vehicle.
(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(c) Turn the power switch on (READY).
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / HV Battery / Data List / V1 to V14 Batt Block.
(e) Fully warm up the engine and turn the air conditioning off.
(f) Firmly depress the brake pedal with your left foot.
(g) Move the shift lever to the D position.
(h) Record each battery block voltage in the data list ("V1 to V14 Batt Block") while fully depressing the accelerator pedal.
(i) Compare the battery block voltages ("V1 to V14 Batt Block") between the even and odd number groups in each combination shown in the table below.

(j) Check if the difference in voltage of each combination is 0.3 V or more.
Result:

HINT: Difference in voltage of each combination may be 0.3 V or more due to a battery smart unit internal error.

B -- REPLACE BATTERY ECU
A -- REPLACE HV SUPPLY BATTERY ASSEMBLY
