APPLICABILITY:

INTRODUCTION:

Some 2006 - 2012 model year Yaris vehicles may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:

^ MIL "ON" with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, and/or P0304.

^ Intermittently runs rough with engine misfires present after a cold soak startup.

The valve lifters and valve springs have been updated. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to address these conditions.

REQUIRED TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Confirm the engine runs rough on initial start-up after a cold soak or any of the following DTCs are present:

If other DTCs are present, this bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis per Repair Manual procedures.

2. Perform misfire diagnosis.





Refer to the ETAS/TIS library, applicable model year Yaris Repair Manual

3. If the concern is NOT resolved after following the Repair Manual misfire diagnosis, proceed with the repair procedure below to replace the valve springs and lifters.

4. Remove the cylinder head assembly.

5. Inspect and clean the engine components related to this repair.

A. Thoroughly clean and decarbonize the cylinder head and valves.

NOTE

The cylinder head and valves MUST be throughly cleaned and decarbonized for the repair to be effective

6. Replace the valve springs and lifters.

7. Reinstall the cylinder head assembly.

8. Inspect the valve clearance.

9. Verify normal vehicle operation.
