Introduction

Some customers may complain of a noise or a slight vibration when operating the blower motor due to foreign objects or debris in the blower unit. Follow the repair procedure in this TSB to correct this condition.

Production Change Information

This TSB applies to the following:

^ 2007 - 2008 model year Yaris Sedan vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

^ All 2007 - 2009 model year Yaris Hatchback vehicles.





^ 2010 model year Yaris Hatchback vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.





Parts Information

TSB Overview

This TSB provides instructions to install a net over the air inlet damper. The net will prevent objects inside the vehicle from entering the blower housing unit.

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the blower motor.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model year Yaris Repair Manual:

^ 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010 Yaris:
Vehicle Interior - Heating/Air Conditioning - "Air Conditioning: Blower Motor: Removal"

2. Inspect the blower motor for evidence of foreign objects or debris.

^ If foreign objects or debris are noticed in the blower motor remove debris or foreign object reinstall the blower motor verify proper operation and continue to step 3.

^ If NO foreign objects or debris is noticed in the blower motor investigate the root cause of the blower motor noise and vibration replace as necessary and continue to step 3.

3. Remove the glove box.

^ 2007 / 2008 Yaris Sedan:

^ 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010 Yaris Hatchback:

4. Drill a 5-mm (0.20-in.) hole on the mounting surface of the blower unit.





5. Position the tie wrap through the net as shown in Figure 2.





6. Position the net as shown and secure the top of the net to the blower unit bracket using one of the tie wraps provided in the kit.

NOTE

Keep the tie wrap loose to allow easy positioning of the net.





7. Secure the bottom of the net to the blower unit with the two screws that are provided in the kit.

Screws should attach to the bosses on the blower unit.





8. Using the other tie wrap provided in the kit secure the other corner of the net by passing the tie wrap through the newly drilled hole.





9. Tighten both tie wraps and secure the net in place.





10. Cut off the excess tie wrap material as shown.

11. Confirm proper operation of the Fresh/Recirc door.

12. Reinstall the glove box.
