Steering Pad





SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: STEERING PAD: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT STEERING PAD (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(b) Visually check for defects with the steering pad installed on the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

Cuts on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad with a new one.

2. INSPECT STEERING PAD (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(b) Visually check for defects with the steering pad removed from the vehicle.

(1) The defects are as follows:

Cuts on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

Small cracks on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

Significant discoloration on the surface or in the grooves of the steering pad

Cracks or other damage to the connector

Deformation of the steering wheel assembly

Deformation of the horn button contact plate of the steering pad

Interference or uneven clearance between the steering pad and steering wheel assembly when the new steering pad is installed on the steering wheel assembly

OK:

No defects are found.

HINT
If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad or steering wheel assembly with a new one.
