Removal and Replacement



Drive plate, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







^ Crankshaft holder 3242
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1332
^ Depth gauge

Removing
- Remove sealing plug from left side of cylinder block.
- Turn crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 3. The TDC mark on crankshaft must be visible or felt behind bore for sealing plug.

WARNING!
Do not turn the crankshaft while touching the TDC opening with a finger or personal injury could result.






- Screw crankshaft holder 3242 into hole so that crankshaft is prevented from turning.





- Mark position of shim - 1 -, drive plate and washer - 2 - to crankshaft.
- Loosen drive plate securing bolts diagonally and remove.
- Remove drive plate.

Installing





- Place drive plate with shim - 1 - and washer - 2 - onto crankshaft.
- Insert at least 3 old securing bolts and tighten to 30 Nm.





- Check dimension - a - at three points and calculate mean value.
- Specification: approx. 12.3 mm

If specified value is not reached or is exceeded:
- Remove drive plate again and install appropriate shim - 1 -.
Note: Only one shim of the appropriate thickness may be used.

If specification is attained:
- Insert new securing bolts and tighten by hand.
- Tighten securing bolt to 60 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°). Turning further may be performed in several steps.
