Overview / Cylinder Bank 2 (LH)







Cylinder heads, removing and installing

Note:
^ Secure the engine in the engine and transmission stand VAS6095 when repairing.
^ If you install an exchange cylinder head, all contact surfaces between bearing elements, roller rocker fingers and cam running surfaces of camshaft must be oiled before installing the cylinder head cover.
^ The plastic protectors installed to protect the open valves must only be removed immediately before installing the cylinder head.
^ When replacing the cylinder head the complete amount of engine coolant must be replaced.

^ Cylinder bank 1 is located on the right-hand side when looking toward the front.
^ Cylinder bank 2 is located on left-hand side when looking toward the front.

I - Cylinder bank 1.
II - Cylinder bank 2.
Checking compression pressures, Refer to Engine Oil Pressure, Testing and Inspection.





Cylinder bank 2

Note:
^ Cylinder bank 2 is located on the left-hand side when looking toward the front.

1. Cylinder head cover
^ Removing and installing, Refer to Cylinder Head Cover (Cylinder Banks 1 and 2), Removing and Installing
^ Replace if damaged
2. O-ring
^ Replace if damaged
^ Oil before assembling
3. Oil filler tube
^ Coat sealing surfaces with AMV 188 001 02
4. 10 Nm
5. Cap
^ Replace seal if damaged
6. 10 Nm
^ With spacer sleeve and seal
^ Replace seal if damaged
^ Observe sequence when tightening
7. Seal
^ For Valve 2 for camshaft adjustment -N208- item 23 (intake) and camshaft adjustment valve 2 (exhaust) -N319-, item 22
^ Replace if damaged or leaking
8. Bracket
^ For wiring harness
9. 8 Nm
10. Seal for cylinder head cover
^ Replace if damaged or leaking
^ Note installation position
11. 10 Nm
^ Follow installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening, Adjusting timing, Refer to Intake/Exhaust Valve, Adjustments
12. Cover
^ Can only be removed and installed with engine removed.
^ Can be removed and installed with cylinder head installed
^ Without O-ring for sealing oil gallery
^ Installing, Adjusting valve timing, Refer to Intake/Exhaust Valve, Adjustments
13. Hall sender
^ Refer to Powertrain Management, Ignition System, Service and Repair
^ Before removing, mark connector belonging to component
14. Sealing nipple, 4 Nm
^ Installed according to version of cover piece
15. Cylinder head gasket
^ If replaced replace complete amount of engine coolant
16. Lifting eye
17. 23 Nm
18. 60 Nm - 1/4 turn (90°) further
^ Replace
^ Contact surface of sender wheel must be dry around bolt head when assembled
^ To remove and install, counter-hold with 32 mm open jaw wrench on camshaft. Removing and installing camshafts
19. Exhaust camshaft adjuster
^ Identification: B2 and AS
^ Rotate engine only when camshaft adjuster is installed
^ Installing, Adjusting valve timing, Refer to Intake/Exhaust Valve, Adjustments
20. Camshaft roller chain
^ Mark direction of rotation before removing (installation position)
^ Installing, Adjusting valve timing, Refer to Intake/Exhaust Valve, Adjustments
21. Guide rail
^ For camshaft roller chain item 20
^ Clipped to control housing
22. Camshaft adjustment valve 2 (exhaust) - N319
^ For exhaust camshaft
^ Before removing, mark connector belonging to component
23. Valve 2 for camshaft adjustment -N208
^ For intake camshaft
^ Before removing, mark connector belonging to component
24. Intake camshaft adjuster
^ Identification: B2 and E7
^ Rotate engine only when camshaft adjuster is installed
^ Installing, Adjusting valve timing, Refer to Intake/Exhaust Valve, Adjustments
25. Cylinder head
^ Check for distortion, Refer to Overview / Cylinder Bank 2 (LH), or Overview / Cylinder Bank 1 (RH)
^ Removing and installing, Refer to Overview / Cylinder Bank 2 (LH), or Overview / Cylinder Bank 1 (RH)
^ If replaced replace complete amount of engine coolant
26. Cylinder head bolt
^ Replace
^ Follow installation instructions and sequence when loosening and tightening
