Right-Hand Flange Shaft Seal

Right-hand flange shaft seal, replacing
- Observe general repair instructions.

Special tools and equipment





- VW681 Extractor lever
- 3382 Right sealing ring installer
- VAG1331 Torque wrench
- VAG1332 Torque wrench

Removing
- Only loosen drive axle/wheel hub bolt and wheel bolts when vehicle is standing on its wheels.
- Remove wheel.





- Remove right-hand drive axle protective plate -arrows-. The third bolt cannot be seen in the illustration.
- Remove right-hand drive axle -1-.





- Remove flange shaft bolt-arrow- (use pin to prevent flange turning).
- Place VAG1306 Drip tray underneath.
- Pull out right flange shaft.





- Remove flange shaft oil seal.

Installing
- Apply gear oil to circumference and sealing lips of seal.
- Half fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with grease G 052 128 A1.
Installation position:
Open side of seal faces transmission.





- Drive new seal in onto stop, when doing this do not tilt seal.
- Install right-hand flanged shaft.





- Install flanged shaft bolt -arrow- and secure against turning using a punch.





- Install right-hand drive axle -1-.
- Install right-hand drive axle protective plate -arrows-. The third bolt cannot be seen in the illustration.
- Install wheel.
- With transmission installed, check gear oil in front final drive.
