Flex Plate: Service and Repair

Drive plate, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Flywheel lock adapter VW 558
^ M8 x 45 hex bolt and two M10 hex nuts
^ Depth gauge

Loosening and tightening drive plate





- Secure flywheel lock adapter VW 558 to drive plate with M8 x 45 hex bolt. Place two M10 hex nuts between adapter and drive plate.

Installation position of adapter:
A - To loosen
B - To tighten

Installing drive plate





- Position drive plate and packing plate with recesses - 1 -.
- Install new bolts - 3 - and tighten to 30 Nm.





- Check dimension - a - at three points and calculate average.
- Specification: 19.521.1 mm

Note:
^ Dimension is measured through hole in drive plate to milled surface of cylinder block.

If the specification is not attained:





- Remove drive plate again and install appropriate shim - 2 -.
- Tighten bolts to 30 Nm again. Tighten bolts to 60 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°) (further turn can be done in several stages).
