Flex Plate: Service and Repair

Drive plate, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Flywheel lock adapter VW 558
^ Hex bolt M8 x 45 and two M10 hex nuts
^ Depth gauge

Loosening and tightening drive plate





- Secure flywheel lock adapter VW558 to drive plate with hex bolt M8 � 45. Place two M10 hex nuts between adapter and drive plate.

Installation position of counterhold:
A - To loosen
B - To tighten
- Loosen drive plate bolts.

Installing drive plate





- Position drive plate and backing plate with recesses - 1 -.
- Install new bolts - 3 - and tighten to 30 Nm.





- Check dimension - a - at three points and calculate average.
- Specification: 19.5 to 21.1 mm

Note:
^ Dimension is measured through hole in drive plate to milled surface of cylinder block.

If the specification is not attained:





- Remove drive plate again and install appropriate shim - 2 -. Retighten bolts - 3 - again to 30 Nm.
- Tighten bolts to 60 Nm plus 1/4 turn (90°) further (turning further can be completed in several stages).
