Back Cushion Backseat

Preparatory work
Removing backrest cushion
Remove:
- the side cushion.
- the screws, 1 on each side, for the backrest cushion lock.
Pry up the catch.
HINT: Use a large flat-bladed screwdriver.
Lift up the backrest cushion slightly. Pull out the backrest cushion.
To remove the majority of the backrest cushion (60%), fold up the seat cushion and remove the screw for the seat belt and the seat belt buckle.
Lift out the backrest cushion.
Removal
Removing the backrest cushion upholstery (40%)
Remove:
- the head restraint
- the 2 clips from the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the upholstery from the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the screw. Remove the cover from the folding handle.
Detach the upholstery Velcro seams around the entire backrest cushion.
Fold the upholstery and the foam to one side so that the catch for the head restraint mounting becomes visible. Press in the catch using a small screwdriver.
Pull the 2 head restraint mountings straight up. Remove the mountings.
Remove the foam and the upholstery from the frame.
Separate the upholstery from the foam by releasing the 10 clips.
HINT: Use a weatherstrip tool to undo the clips. It is also possible to thread the upholstery out through some of the clips.
Removing the backrest cushion upholstery (60%)
Remove:
- the 2 head restraints
- the center armrest. See: Center arm rest rear seat
- the 2 clips from the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the upholstery from the reverse of the backrest cushion.
Use a weatherstrip tool and remove the booster cushion. This is secured with 4 hooks.
Remove the screw. Remove the cover from the folding handle.
Detach the upholstery Velcro seams around the entire backrest cushion.
Fold the upholstery and the foam to one side so that the catch for the head restraint mounting becomes visible.
Press in the catch using a small screwdriver.
Pull the 2 head restraint mountings straight up. Remove the mountings.
Remove the foam and the upholstery from the frame.
Separate the upholstery from the foam by releasing the 13 clips.
HINT: Use a weatherstrip tool to undo the clips. It is also possible to thread the upholstery out through some of the clips.
Installation
Installing the backrest cushion upholstery (40%)
Install:
- the upholstery on the foam by pressing the 10 clips into place
- the upholstery and the foam on the frame
- the upholstery on the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the 2 clips on the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the upholstery on the front of the backrest cushion by pressing the Velcro seams into place.
Press the head restraint mountings into place. Pull the mountings straight up to ensure that none are loose.
Install:
- the screw for the folding handle cover. Tighten
- the head restraint.
Installing the backrest cushion upholstery (60%)
Install:
- the upholstery on the foam by pressing the 13 clips into place
- the upholstery and the foam on the frame
- the upholstery on the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the 2 clips on the reverse of the backrest cushion
- the upholstery on the front of the backrest cushion by pressing the Velcro seams into place.
Press the head restraint mountings into place. Pull the mountings straight up to ensure that none are loose.
Install:
- the screw for the folding handle cover. Tighten
- the booster cushion
- the center armrest. See: Center arm rest rear seat
- head restraints.
Finishing
Installing backrest cushion
NOTE: For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque. Specifications
HINT: When replacing both backrest cushions, it is easier to install the majority of the backrest cushion (60%) first.
Install:
- the backrest cushion. Fold down the catch
- the 2 M10 screw (1 for each backrest cushion). Tighten.
To install the majority of the backrest cushion (60%), install the M12 screw for the seat belt and the seat belt buckle. Tighten. See: Summary of tightening torques for specific components. Specifications
Install the side cushion.
