Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair



Carbon Filter Container, Replacing

Special Tools: 998 5972, 999 5972

NOTE: The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work
Remove the right rear wheel.

Removing the shock absorber

Remove the following on both sides:







- the screw
- the shock absorber from the lateral link.

Removing exhaust support







Remove the 2 x rubber mountings from the rear muffler.

Lowering the sub-frame

CAUTION: Ensure that no cables/hoses are put under strain or trapped when lowering the sub-frame.

Use: 998 5972 and: 9995972.
Position the mobile jack against the sub-frame.
Pull the brake hose out of its bracket on both sides.

Remove:







- the screw (1) on both sides
- the 2 x screws (2) on both sides.

Lower the sub-frame approximately 5 cm.

Removing the carbon filter container

Remove:







- the 4 x M6 screws securing the carbon filter container to the rear sub-frame
- the two pipes and quick-release connectors (1)
- the clamp and hose (2)
- the carbon filter container and bracket. Remove from above the rear muffler.

Transferring components

Remove:







- the hose with clamp. Transfer them to the new carbon filter container
- the 3x M6 screws with the bracket. Transfer the screws and bracket to the new carbon filter container.

Installation

NOTE: For tightening torques, see Specifications.

Installing the carbon filter container
Position the carbon filter container on the subframe. Insert the carbon filter container over the rear muffler.

Install:







- the two pipes and quick-release connectors (1)
- the clamp and hose (2)
- the 4 x M6 screws securing the carbon filter container to the sub-frame.

Finishing

Installing the sub-frame

Lift up the sub-frame. Ensure that the locating pins engage in their holes in the bodywork.

CAUTION: Ensure that no cables/hoses are put under strain or trapped when installing the sub-frame.

Install:







- the 2 x screws (2) on both sides.
- the screw (1) on both sides.

Remove the lifting table.

Installing the shock absorber

Install on both sides:







- the shock absorber
- the screw.
- the brake hose in its bracket on both sides.

Installing the exhaust







Install the 2 x rubber mountings for the rear muffler.
Install the wheel.
