Components on the Inner Constant Velocity Joint Housing, Replacing

Components on the inner constant velocity joint housing, replacing
Disassembling the inner constant velocity joint housing
Wipe off the grease from the constant velocity joint housing.

Mark up the constant velocity joint, bearing race and shaft in relation to each other. Use an electric scriber.

Removing the inner constant velocity joint housing from the drive shaft

Place the drive shaft on a workbench. Carefully separate the drive shaft by pulling out the inner constant velocity joint from the constant velocity joint housing. At the same time, note the position of the balls in relation to the markings.

Cleaning the components on the inner constant velocity joint housing

Clean the components of the inner constant velocity joint housing thoroughly.

Note: Replace the drive shaft assembly if any component has cracking or wear damage. Scratches and minor pitting of the bearing races are permitted.

Note: Take care when installing the inner ball bearings.

Installing boot and drive shafts
Before installing the boot, see: Installation preparations.
Install the drive shafts. See: Drive shaft left, replacing and Drive shaft right, replacing

Installation preparations
Lubricating the constant velocity joint
Lubricate the constant velocity joint thoroughly. For the outer constant velocity joint grease behind the constant velocity joint via the shaft hole in the inner ring.

Use half the grease packaging. The remainder will be used later in the boot.

Replacing the snap-ring

Install the new snap ring included in the boot kit.

Installing the boot

To install the boots, see: Installing the boot Installing the boot

Installing boot on the drive shaft
Install the constant velocity joint to the drive shaft. Ensure that inner ring is straight in the constant velocity joint housing.
Tap on the constant velocity joint housing. Use a rubber mallet.
Check that the snap ring is seated in its groove. Do this by measuring the distance. See Checking dimensions

Greasing the boot

Grease the boot. Apply the remaining grease.

Note: Ensure that there is no grease on the mating surfaces between the boot and the constant velocity joint housing and the drive shaft.

Remove excess grease. Use denatured alcohol. Ensure that the boot is in position on the constant velocity joint housing. Install a new clamp. Use: 951 2619.

Venting the boot

Venting is carried out to remove any over pressure in the boot. Use a screwdriver. Carefully insert the screwdriver between the drive shaft and boot.
Ensure that the boot is aligned against the inner rib on the drive shaft. Install a new clamp. Use: 951 2619.
