For right-hand drive cars: carry out the corresponding procedure on the left-hand side of the car.
- Take the short cable harness from the kit.
- Detach the smaller connector from the cable.
- Fit the waterproofed connector (1) with plastic clamp / metal clip from the kit.
- Secure the plastic clamp around the connector and install the metal clip around the panel edge on the right-hand side of the car.

- Pull the end of the cable with loose pins into the engine compartment.
- Route the cable (1) as illustrated. Place it under the fuse holder and expansion tank so that it is concealed.
- Make sure that it is positioned so that it is not damaged by heat or wear.
- Clamp it in with tie straps from the kit.

Cable routing to the passenger compartment

- Raise the car.
- Remove the plug from the hole into the passenger compartment.

If the car has a rubber grommet without any space for more cables
- Remove the existing rubber grommet and replace it with the rubber grommet from the kit.

If the car has a rubber grommet with space for more cables
- Cut off the tip of the unused rubber teat and route the cable into the passenger compartment.
- Thread on the rubber grommet from the kit. Lubricate the cable with normal soap so that the rubber grommet slides easily. Route the cable through the hole and press in the rubber grommet.
- Make sure that the cable's heating hose is in contact against the rubber grommet.
- Secure the heating hose with a tie strap.

- Fold the floor mat aside and pull in the cable.

- Take the connector from the kit.
- Undo the catch.
- Fit the cable end pins in the connector.
1. Blue (Blue, BL)
2. Green (Green, GN)
3. Violet (Violet, VO)
4. Yellow (Yellow, Y)
5. White (White, W)
6. Black (Black, SB)
- Press back the connector's catch.

- Take the long cable from the kit. Connect it to the connector which has just been prepared.
- Route the cable over to the side of the car and on back under the sills along the existing cable harnesses backwards and into the cargo compartment.

Applies to left-hand drive cars
- Continue to route the cable along the rear sill to the left-hand wheel arch.

Marking the holes for the sensors

- Measure out for the sensors, as illustrated.
- Measure out for the inner holes 321 mm (12 41/64) from the centre, and the outer holes 712 mm (28 1/32") from the centre. Both the outer and inner holes must be 41 mm (1 39/64") from the upper edge.
The centre of the bumper is marked with a cross.

Note! The measurements must be made from the inside of the bumper.

- Mark out the holes to be drilled.

Drilling the holes for the sensors

- Pre-drill the holes in the centres (1) of the markings using a - 3 mm (1/8") diameter drill bit.
- Drill out the holes using a - 8.5 mm (21/64') diameter drill bit.

- Reinstall the foam temporarily and mark out through the holes in the bumper cover for corresponding holes in the foam.
- Remove the foam from the bumper cover.
- Open the holes in the bumper cover. Use a - 31 mm (17/32") diameter hole punching tool (P/N 9814069). The socket and screw of the hole punching tool must be on the inside of the bumper cover.

- Drill four holes in the foam using a - 51 mm (2') diameter hole saw in accordance with the new markings.

Illustration A shows the right-hand side of the foam

Illustration B shows the left-hand side of the foam

- Additional holes must be drilled in accordance with illustrations A and B, straight in towards the centre, in order to make space for the sensors' connector sockets.

- Cut out for the cable harness on the rear of the bumper cover, by the four cut-outs.

- Clean the inside of the bumper cover using a mild soap solution.
- Clean around the holes and their inner edges using a cleaning cloth. Allow to dry.
- Apply a thin layer of activator (P/N 8637076) on the cleaned surfaces. Allow to dry.

- Clean the sensor surface (1) on the sensors, and the surfaces (2) and (3) on the sensor holders. Use a cleaning cloth. Allow to dry.
- Apply a thin layer of activator on the cleaned surfaces. Allow to dry.

- Remove the protective backing film from one side of the tape.
- Apply the tape to the front side of the sensor holders.
- Carry out the procedure above for the three other sensor holders.

Note! Incorrect positioning of the sensors may result in partial or complete malfunction.

Note! The tape adheres immediately.

- Check the marking on the rear side of the sensor holders (inset illustrations) for correct location. Holders marked with a 1 are located on the left-hand side and holders marked with a 2 are located on the right-hand side.
- Check for correct location by temporarily fitting a sensor in each holder. All connectors must now point in towards the centre of the bumper cover.
- Install the sensor holders with the number marking pointing upwards. The top edge of the sensor holders must be horizontal to the bumper and in line with each other.

Installing the sensors and cable harness

Note! The illustration shows installation on a left-hand drive car.

- Fit the sensors in the sensor holders so that they fasten securely.
- Connect the cable harness connectors to the sensors.

Note! A click should be heard when connecting. The noise confirms that the catch has locked.

- Applies to left-hand drive cars: The cable harness' loose connector must come out on the right-hand side of the bumper.
Applies to right-hand drive cars: The cable harness' loose connector must come out on the left-hand side of the bumper.
- Locate the cable harness along the edge inside the bumper cover, above the foam. Secure the cable harness with butyl tape. Use activator (P/N 8637076) as an underlying surface in order to increase adhesion.

- Reinstall the foam and the plastic in the bumper cover.
- Make sure that all catches fully engage.

Note! Take care to ensure that the activator has dried, at least ten minutes, before painting.

- Paint the sensors and holders using the same colour code paint as the car. Use paint recommended by Volvo. Apply a maximum of two coats.
- When the paint has dried, remove the protective backing paper.

Caution! Too many layers of paint may result in partial or complete malfunction.

- Hold the bumper up against the car and connect the connector for the sensors to the connector clamped to the car.
- Reinstall the bumper by repeating the instructions in steps 2-7 in reverse order.

- Connect the routed cable to an available port on the parking assistance module (PAM). It is secured with Velcro on the left-hand side in the cargo compartment behind the wheel arch.

Note! Make sure that the connector clicks into place and is properly secured.

Finishing work
- Clamp the sensor cable so that it is not chafed or causes noise.

Reinstall:
- The sills, front and rear
- The side panels in the cargo compartment
- The floor mat and the sill moulding in the cargo compartment.
- The panel and the floor mat at the front passenger seat or driver's seat.
