Backing Plate: Service and Repair



Rear Brake Backing Plate Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the park brake cable:

* For the left park brake cable, refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (Park Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side) .
* For the right park brake cable, refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (Park Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side) .

3. Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the rear axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the backing plate mounting bolts.
6. Remove the backing plate.

Installation Procedure.

1. Position the backing plate on the rear axle housing.
2. Install the backing plate mounting bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

3. Install the backing plate retaining bolts.

Tighten the mounting bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft).

4. Install the wheel Cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Install the park brake cables.

* For the left park brake cable, refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (Park Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side) .
* For the right park brake cable, refer to Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (Park Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side) .

6. Install the rear axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair) .
7. Lower the vehicle.
