Side Curtain Airbag - Removal

REMOVAL

CURTAIN AIRBAG





1. Open hood, disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.

WARNING: Wait two minutes for the airbag system reserve capacitor to discharge before beginning any airbag system or component service. Failure to do so may result in accidental airbag deployment, personal injury or death.

2. Remove the headliner from the vehicle Headliner - Removal.
3. Remove the screws (8) that secure the curtain airbag to the spring nuts in the roof side rail.




Remove the retaining screws at the D-pillar to the curtain airbag (4).





4. Disconnect the curtain airbag squib connector (4).




5. Disengage the side curtain airbag front tether (2) plastic retainer from the hole in the upper A-pillar (1).




6. Grasp the extruded curtain airbag (7) firmly and pull it straight away from the body far enough to disengage all the plastic push-in fasteners (9) that secure it to the locating holes in the roof side rail.
7. Remove the curtain airbag (7) from the vehicle as a unit.

HEAD IMPACT COUNTER MEASURES





1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the headliner from the vehicle Headliner - Removal.
3. Remove the curtain airbag. Refer to above procedure Side Curtain Airbag - Removal.
4. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry out on the retaining clips (6) to the counter measure rail to be removed.
5. Remove head impact counter measure rail (5 and 7) from vehicle.
