Normal Operation
The instrument cluster monitors the autolamp request (from the headlamp switch) through circuit 8-LE47 (WH/GN). After the signal for the autolamps is received, the instrument cluster then monitors the photocell ambient light conditions by sending a signal to the photocell through circuit 8-LE42 (WH/BU). When the instrument cluster detects a low ambient light condition, a message is sent to the front electronic module (FEM) and the rear electronic module (REM) to illuminate the exterior lamps.
The instrument cluster also monitors the headlamp switch position for the headlamp and parking lamp request. The instrument cluster sends a signal through circuit 8-LE21 (WH/GN) and is returned from the headlamp switch through circuit 9-LE29 (BN/GN). If the instrument cluster detects a problem with these circuits or the headlamp switch, the instrument cluster defaults and sends a message to the FEM and the REM to turn the headlamps and parking lamps ON.

- circuit 8-LE47 (WH/GN) open, short to ground or short to power
- circuit 9-LE29 (BN/GN) open, short to ground or short to power
- photocell
- headlamp switch
