Steering Column Shaft
1. Turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the right and using a suitable holding device, secure the steering wheel.
2. NOTICE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the steering column has rotated, remove and recenter the clockspring. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Service and Repair.
NOTICE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the steering column internal sensor may result.
Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering gear.
- To install, tighten a new bolt to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
3. Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt and remove the steering column shaft.
- To install, tighten a new bolt to 33 Nm (24 lb-ft).
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
