Parking Brake Cable
Removal and Installation
Intermediate cable
1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel and Console Service and Repair.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut to the end of the thread.
4. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
5. NOTICE: Support the exhaust pipe or damage to the exhaust flexible pipe may occur.
NOTE: Install new exhaust tailpipe and muffler assembly nuts.
Position the exhaust tailpipe and muffler assembly aside.
1. Remove and discard the muffler flange nuts.
- To install, tighten the new nuts to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
2. Disconnect the hanger isolators.
6. Remove the center exhaust hanger isolator.
7. Remove the 4 nuts and the exhaust center heat shield.
8. Remove the 5 nuts and the exhaust rear heat shield from the floor panel.
9. Separate the parking brake cable from the equalizer.
10. NOTE: There are marks and sleeves on the outer cable conduit to indicate the clip locations. Note the position of the clips on the outer cable conduit to aid installation.
Disconnect the parking brake cable from the retaining clips.
11. If equipped, remove the rear air deflectors.
- Remove the screws.
- Release the clip.
12. Remove the 2 parking brake cable bracket bolts from the floor panel.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
13. Remove the parking brake cable from the bracket.
Rear cable
14. If equipped with ABS, remove the rear wheel speed sensor bolt and position the wheel speed sensor aside.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
15. Remove the brake drum. For additional information, refer to Drum Brake Service and Repair.
16. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake backing plate.
- Pull the actuating lever forward.
- Remove the cable from the actuating lever.
- Compress the clip and pull the parking brake cable through the brake backing plate.
Both cables
17. Disconnect the parking brake cable at the cable union.
Intermediate cable
18. Remove the 2 parking brake cable guide bolts and disconnect the parking brake cable guide from the lower control arms.
- To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
19. Pull the parking brake cable through the lower control arm.
Both cables
20. Remove the parking brake cable.
21. NOTE: The LH intermediate cable can be identified by a green sleeve.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
