Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (with navigation)
No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) ('10 model with navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Do the individual speaker test Audio System Sound Quality Diagnosis.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Before doing symptom troubleshooting, do the audio-navigation unit power switch will not turn on troubleshooting. Audio-Navigation Unit Power Switch Will Not Turn On (No Information Display And No Sound) (With Navigation)
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio-navigation unit, and make sure the volume knob is not set to the MIN level.
Is it at the MIN level?
YES -
Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.�
NO -
Go to step 3 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
3. On the steering wheel, check the navigation talk command, and/or the HandsFreeLink talk command function.
Are the navigation talk command and/or the HFL talk command function set?
YES -
Cancel the navigation talk command by pressing the navigation BACK button, and/or HFL talk command by pressing the HFL BACK button, then recheck the function.�
NO -
Go to step 4 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector and audio-navigation unit connector A (24P).
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and recheck the audio system for sound.
Did the sound return?
YES -
Reconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit and the audio-navigation unit one at a time, and note which one causes sound to go away, replace the unit.�
NO -
Go to step 7 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
7. See if the problem recurs with the tuner and more than one CD.
Does the problem recur using the tuner as well as CDs?
YES -
Go to step 8 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Go to poor AM or FM radio reception or interference troubleshooting Poor AM Or FM Radio Reception Or Interference (With Navigation).�
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Check the speaker(s) with no sound for any damage.
Is there any damage?
YES -
Substitute a known-good speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement, and recheck.�
NO -
Go to step 10 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
10. Remove the speaker(s) with no sound Speaker Test/Replacement, and disconnect its connector.
11. Check the speaker 2P connector for a loose or poor connection.
Reconnect the speaker 2P connector, and recheck the symptom; is the condition still present?
YES -
Go to step 12 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Intermittent failure. Operation is normal.�
12. Test the speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement.
Is the speaker OK?
YES -
Go to step 13 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Replace the speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement.�
13. Reconnect the speaker connector(s).
14. Check the No. 17 (15A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 15 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Replace the fuse (s), and recheck.�
15. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 16 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the No. 17 (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 10.�
16. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and push the VOL PUSH PWR knob to on the audio-navigation unit.
17. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 20 and body ground.
Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES -
Go to step 18 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 20 and body ground (G502).�
18. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
19. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector A (20P).
20. Check for continuity between body ground and stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker(s).�
NO -
Go to step 21 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
21. Disconnect the 2P connector(s) from the tweeter(s).
22. Measure the resistance between each pair of speaker terminals at stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.
Is the resistance OK?
YES -
Go to step 23 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Repair an open or a short in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker(s).�
23. Disconnect the 2P connector(s) from the front door speaker(s).
24. Connect the tweeter connector terminal (+) and (-) with a jumper wire.
25. Check for continuity between each pair of speaker terminals at stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 26 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
NO -
Repair an open in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker.�
26. Disconnect the jumper wire.
27. Disconnect the 2P connector(s) from the speaker(s).
28. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the speaker.�
NO -
Go to step 29 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
29. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) and stereo amplifier connector B (14P).
30. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector A (20P), B (14P) and body ground according to the table. Then check for continuity between the same terminals listed in the table and stereo amplifier connector B (14P) terminals No. 2, No. 5, No. 9, No. 12 (the harness shield).
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 31 No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (With Navigation).
31. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) and stereo amplifier connector A (20P) and B (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation. If the symptom is still present, substitute a known-good stereo amplifier Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original stereo amplifier Service and Repair.�
NO -
There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
