USB Device Does Not Function (Without Navigation)




Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB device does not function (without navigation)

USB device does not function ('10 model without navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the USB device compatibility:
- Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port
- More than 256 MB of RAM
- Supports MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the i-Tunes) files, DRM files are not supported
- Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the owner's manual for more information. Always test the customers USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result in USB devices working in newer vehicles, but not in older vehicles of the same model.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Turn on the audio unit.

3. Press the AUX button to select USB mode.

NOTE: Do not connect the USB device at this time.

Is USB NO DATA displayed in the audio display?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Go to step 17.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Connect the customer's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter cable, and check the USB device operation.

Is the USB device working properly in the known-good vehicle?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

If the audio unit displays UNSUPPORTED or UNSUPPORTED VER, the USB device may not be supported or the wrong type music files are on the device. If the audio unit displays USB NO SONG/iPod NO SONG, the USB device may have no music files. See the owner's manual for details on USB device compatibility and approved file types.�

6. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB adapter cable.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Turn on the audio system.

9. Check the USB device operation in the customer's vehicle.

Does the USB device work properly in the customer 's vehicle?

YES -

The system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB cord and USB adapter for wear.�

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

11. On the customer's vehicle, remove the USB device.

12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

14. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector B (5P).

15. Check for continuity between the terminals of USB adapter unit connector B (5P) and the USB jack 5P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 17.

NO -

Go to step 16.

16. Disconnect the USB adapter cable, and check for continuity between the terminals according to the table.









Is there continuity between all of the terminals?

YES -

Replace the USB adapter cable, and recheck.

NO -

Replace the USB cord, and recheck.

17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

18. Disconnect the XM receiver connector A (14P) (if equipped).

19. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 20.

NO -

Check for an open or a short to ground in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter unit. If the wire is OK, substitute a known-good audio unit, and recheck Audio Unit Removal/Installation. If the symptom goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.�

20. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 21.

NO -

Substitute a known-good USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement, and recheck.�

21. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

22. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there less than 2.0 V?

YES -

Go to step 27.

NO -

Go to step 23.

23. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

24. Remove the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation, and audio unit connector E (14P).

25. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).

26. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 2.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation, reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.�

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.�

27. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 28.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter unit.

28. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

29. Remove the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation, and audio unit connector E (14P).

30. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).

31. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector E (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 32.

32. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector E (14P) and USB adapter unit connector A (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement, then reconnect all of the connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter unit USB Adapter Unit Replacement. If the symptom/ indication is still present, replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.�

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
