- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. If you did not clean the ATF cooler when you removed the transmission, and you are installing an overhauled or remanufactured transmission, clean the ATF cooler ATF Cooler Cleaning.
2. 4WD: Remove the propeller shaft protector.
3. Install the torque converter (A) on the mainshaft (B) with a new O-ring (C).
NOTE: Make sure the torque converter is fully engaged on the mainshaft, starter shaft and the ATF pump gear. Failure to do so will result in severe transmission or engine damage.
4. Install the dowel pins (D) in the torque converter housing.
5. Place the transmission on a jack, and raise the transmission to the engine level, then fit the transmission to the engine.
6. Install the rear transmission housing mounting bolts.
7. K24Z6 engine: Install the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor cover.
8. Install the front transmission housing mounting bolts.
9. K24Z6 engine: Install the lower transmission housing mounting bolts.
10. Remove the jack.
11. Install the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.
12. Place the jack under the transmission.
13. Secure the transmission mount bracket on the transmission housing with new mounting bolts.
14. Install a new set ring (A) on the intermediate shaft (B).
15. Clean the areas where the intermediate shaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Apply ATF to the intermediate shaft splines (C), then install the intermediate shaft, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission.
16. Install a new set ring (A) on the left driveshaft (B).
17. Clean the areas where the left driveshaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Then install the left driveshaft, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission. Turn the steering knuckle fully outward, and slide the driveshaft into the differential until you feel its set ring fully engage the side gear.
18. Apply the recommended grease to the right driveshaft inboard-joint splines Front Driveshaft Installation.
19. Slide the right driveshaft over the intermediate shaft splines until you feel the driveshaft fully engage the intermediate shaft set ring.
20. Attach the torque converter to the drive plate with eight bolts (A). Rotate the crankshaft pulley as necessary to tighten the bolts to half of the specified torque, then to the final torque, in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely.

21. Install the torque converter cover (B).
22. Support the front subframe (A) with the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack, and lift it up to the body.
23. Loosely install new subframe mounting bolts.
24. Align all reference marks (A) on the front subframe (B) with the marks you made on the body, then tighten the mounting bolts on the subframe to the specified torque.
25. Install new mid-bracket bolts.
26. Secure the lower torque rod with new bolts.
27. 4WD: Install the propeller shaft protector.
28. 4WD: Install the propeller shaft (A) to the transfer companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C).
29. Loosely install the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts.
30. Loosely install the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts.
31. Tighten the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts to the specified torque.
32. Install both lower arms (A) to both ball joints (B), and loosely install new mounting nuts and bolts.
33. Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 59 Nm (6.0 kg-m, 43 lb-ft) in the following order: the nut on the front (C), the nut on the rear (D), then the bolt (E).
34. Install the stabilizer links (F) to the stabilizer, and install the nuts (G). Insert a 6 mm Allen wrench (H) in the ball joint pin (I), and tighten the nuts.
35. Install the three-way catalytic converter (K24Z1 engine) or the under-floor three-way catalytic converter (K24Z6 engine) with the bolts, new self-locking nuts, and new gaskets (A).
36. Connect the A/F sensor connector (K24Z1 engine) and the secondary HO2S connector.
37. K24Z1 engine: Install the A/F sensor harness and the secondary HO2S harness in the harness clamps.
K24Z6 engine: Install the secondary HO2S harness in the harness clamp.
38. Install the shift cable holder bracket on the transmission.
39. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).
40. Secure the shift cable brackets (C) (D) with the bolts.
41. Attach the shift cable end to the control lever (E), then insert the control pin (F) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (G). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
42. Install the shift cable cover (H).
43. Secure the ATF filter with the bolt on the front subframe.
44. Secure the power steering fluid line bracket (A) with the bolt.
45. Secure the power steering fluid line (B) with the clamps (C).
46. Remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger adapters.
47. Remove the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015) from the cylinder head.
48. Loosen the upper torque rod bolt (A).
49. Loosen the transmission mount base bracket bolt (A) and the nuts (B).
50. Loosen the lower torque rod bolts (A) (B).
51. Retighten the lower torque rod bolts (B) to the specified torque, then retighten the bolt (A) to the specified torque.
52. Tighten the transmission mount base bracket bolt and the nuts to the specified torque.
53. Tighten the upper torque rod bolt to the specified torque.
54. Connect the ATF cooler hoses (A) to the ATF cooler lines (B), and secure the hoses with the clips (C) Service and Repair.
55. K24Z6 engine: Secure the install pipe component with the bolts.
56. K24Z6 engine: Secure the connector bracket with the bolt.
57. Connect the shift solenoid wire harness connector (A), the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (B), and the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (C), and install the harness clamp (D) on the clamp bracket (E).
58. Connect the transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on its clamp bracket (C).
59. Connect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (A) and the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (B).

60. K24Z1 engine: Install the harness clamp (C) on the clamp bracket (D).
K24Z6 engine: Secure the harness clamp bracket (E) on the transmission housing with the bolt.
61. Install the transmission range switch subharness connector (F) on the connector bracket, and connect the connector.
62. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (A) and the transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (B), and install the harness clamps (C) on the clamp brackets (D).

63. K24Z1 engine: Install the air cleaner housing mounting bracket (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on the harness clamp bracket.
64. Refill the transmission with ATF ATF Replacement.
65. Install the battery base.
66. Install the intake air duct:

68. Install the front bulkhead cover.
69. Install both lids on the cowl cover.
70. Do the battery installation procedure Removal and Replacement.
71. Set the parking brake. Start the engine, and shift the transmission through all positions three times.
72. Check the shift lever operation, the A/T gear position indicator operation, and the shift cable adjustment.
73. Install the front wheels.
74. Install the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.
75. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment Service and Repair.
76. Start the engine in P or N, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on). Turn off the engine, and check the ATF level ATF Level Check.
77. Road-test the vehicle A/T Road Test.
