Automatic Transmission Removal
Special Tools Required
- Engine Hanger Adapter VSB02C000015
- CR-V Engine Hanger Adapter VSB02C000032
- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016
- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256
*Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857.
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- Special tool engine support hanger AAR-T1256 must be used with the side engine mount installed.
1. Secure the hood in the wide open position with the support rod.
2. Remove the front bulkhead cover.
3. Do the battery removal procedure Removal and Replacement.
4. Remove the air cleaner:

5. Remove the intake air duct:

6. Remove the battery base.
7. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
8. Remove the front wheels.
9. Remove the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.
10. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the transmission fluid (ATF).
11. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
12. K24Z1 engine: Remove the harness clamp (A) from the clamp bracket, and remove the air cleaner housing bracket (B).
13. Disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (A) and the transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (B), and remove the harness clamps (C) from the clamp brackets (D).

14. Disconnect the transmission range switch subharness connector (A), and remove the connector from its bracket.

15. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B) and the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (C).
16. K24Z1 engine: Remove the harness clamp (D) from the clamp bracket (E).
K24Z6 engine: Remove the bolt securing the harness clamp bracket (F) from the transmission housing.
17. Disconnect the transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (A), and remove the harness clamp (B) from its bracket (C).
18. Disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (A), the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (B), and the shift solenoid wire harness connector (C), then remove the harness clamp (D) from the clamp bracket (E).
19. Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A) from the ATF cooler lines (B). Turn the end of the ATF cooler hoses up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hoses and lines.
20. K24Z6 engine: Remove the bolts securing the install pipe component.
21. K24Z6 engine: Remove the bolt securing the connector bracket from the engine block.
22. Attach the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015) to the threaded hole (A) in the cylinder head.
23. Remove both lids (A) from the cowl cover. Position the engine hanger adapters (VSB02C000032) over the damper flange nuts.
24. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) on the vehicle, and attach the hook (A) to the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015). Tighten the wing nut (B) by hand to lift and support the engine.
NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield.
25. Insert a 6 mm Allen wrench (A) in the top of the ball joint pins (B), and remove the nuts (C), then separate the stabilizer links (D) from the stabilizer (E).
26. Remove the nuts (F) and the bolts (G) securing the lower arms (H) and the ball joints (I), and separate the lower arms from the ball joints.
27. Disconnect the A/F sensor connector (K24Z1 engine) and the secondary HO2S connector.
28. K24Z1 engine: Remove the A/F sensor harness and the secondary HO2S harness from the harness clamps.
K24Z6 engine: Remove the secondary HO2S harness from the harness clamp.
29. Remove the three-way catalytic converter (K24Z1 engine) or the under-floor three-way catalytic converter (K24Z6 engine).
30. 4WD: Make a reference mark (A) across the propeller shaft (B) and the transfer companion flange (C). Separate the propeller shaft from the transfer companion flange.
31. Remove the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts.
32. Remove the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts.
33. Support the steering gearbox on both sides from the body with nylon straps.
34. Remove the bolt (A) securing the power steering fluid line bracket.
35. Remove the power steering fluid line from the line clamps (B).
36. Remove the bolt securing the ATF filter on the front subframe.
37. Place a jack under the engine, raise it just enough to take it off of the mount, and remove the lower torque rod bolts.
38. Remove the jack.
39. Remove the shift cable cover (A).
40. Remove the spring clip (B) and the control pin (C), and separate the shift cable end (D) from the control lever (E).
41. Remove the bolts securing the shift cable brackets (F) (G). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
42. Check the bushing (H) in the shift cable end for proper fit and wear. If the bushing is loose or worn, replace the shift cable Service and Repair.
43. Remove the shift cable holder bracket from the transmission.
44. 4WD: Remove the propeller shaft protector.
45. Make reference marks (A) on the body across the marks (B) on the edge of the front subframe (C).
46. Remove both mid-bracket bolts.
47. Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the strap (A) over the front of the subframe, then secure the strap with the stop (B), then tighten the wing nut (C).
48. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, then tighten the bolts.
49. Remove the six bolts securing the front subframe (A), and lower the subframe.
50. Remove the torque converter cover (A), and remove the drive plate bolts (B) (8) while rotating the crankshaft pulley.

51. Remove the left side driveshaft from the differential and the right side driveshaft from the intermediate shaft. Clean then coat all precision machined surfaces with clean engine oil, and put plastic bags over the driveshaft ends. Secure the driveshafts to the body with a strap.
52. Remove the intermediate shaft. Clean then coat all precision machined surfaces with clean engine oil, and put plastic bags over the intermediate shaft ends.
NOTE: Plug the intermediate shaft hole to prevent dirt and solvent from entering the transmission.
53. Remove the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.
54. Place the jack under the transmission, raise the transmission just enough to take it off of the mount, and remove the transmission mount bracket bolts.
55. Remove the jack.
56. Lower the transmission by loosening the wing nut on the engine support hanger, and tilt the engine just enough for the transmission to clear the side frame.
57. Place the jack under the transmission.
58. K24Z6 engine: Remove the lower transmission housing mounting bolts.
59. Remove the front transmission housing mounting bolts.
60. K24Z6 engine: Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor cover (A).
61. Remove the rear transmission housing mounting bolts.
62. Slide the transmission away from the engine to remove it from the vehicle.
63. Remove the torque converter and the dowel pins.
64. Inspect the drive plate, and replace it if it is damaged Service and Repair.
65. 4WD: Install the propeller shaft protector.
66. If you will be installing an overhauled or remanufactured transmission, clean the ATF cooler ATF Cooler Cleaning.
