Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the headliner.
- Be careful not to damage the dashboard or the other interior trim.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove these items:

- Ceiling light Service and Repair
- A-pillar trims, both sides
- C-pillar trims/upper quarter window trims, both sides
- D-pillar trims, both sides
- Rearview mirror Rearview Mirror Replacement
- Skylight (for some '07-08 models)
- Sunvisors, both sides Service and Repair
- Grab handles, three places Service and Repair

2. Remove the upper striker covers (A) from both sides.

1. Pull away the door inner seal (B) as needed.

2. Pull the cover to the rear to release it from the rear access panel upper striker (C).

3. Detach the clips.





3. For some '07-08 models: Remove the roof console (A).

1. Remove the lens (B).

2. Remove the bolts.

3. Pull down the console, and slide it rearward to release the hooks (C). Take care not to damage the roof wire harness.

4. Disconnect the front individual map light connector (D).





4. For some '09-11 models: Remove the overhead console (A).

1. Remove the map light Service and Repair.

2. Open the console lids (B, C), then remove the screws.

3. Release the hook (D), and pull down the console, then disconnect the overhead console subharness connector (E).





5. With skylight: Remove the screws, and slide the glass latch handle trim (A) forward to release the hook (B), then remove the trim.






6. Lower the headliner (A).

1. With skylight: Remove the roof trim (B).

2. Detach the clip (C) from the rear edge of the headliner, and release the Velcro fasteners (D) (without skylight).

3. Remove the remaining door inner seal (E) from each roof area.

Without Skylight ( '07-08 models)





With Skylight ( '07-08 models)





'09-11 models





7. With the help of an assistant, pull out the headliner (A) through the tailgate opening.

NOTE: Do not bend the headliner. Bending the headliner will crease and damage it.






8. If necessary, remove the side curtain airbag mounting screws (A) and the grab handle bracket mounting bolts (B), then remove the grab handle bracket (C) by releasing the hook (D).






9. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the headliner and the removed trim pieces, along with the other parts listed for side curtain airbag deployment Service and Repair.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the headliner and all removed trim. Replace any pieces with the following damage:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any cracks or breakages in the grab handle (B)
- Any damages around the grab handle holes (C) or the sunvisor holes (D) in the headliner
- Any cracks in the sunvisor stay base (E)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft (F)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor base (G)
- Any Velcro fasteners (H) which have come off the headliner
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body.
- Make sure the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.
- When reinstalling the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
- With skylight: When installing the roof trim (I), align the roof trim ends with the opening flange of the skylight frame as shown.
